Spataro: nice all around

All around the bar, that is. The three-sided bar is flanked by modern diner-type booths on one side and a carpeted living room style setting on the other. This multi-functional, two-level bar scene means Spataro is ideal for any cocktail situation.

The big, comfy chairs and tables in the “living room” can be rearranged to accommodate larger parties or (my favorite) fluctuating parties - to adjust for those busybodies who drop in for only one glass, or for the minglers who tend crash other cocktailer groups. The plush tables on the edge of the carpeted area provide more privacy, say for a romance-minded couple or a group of gal pals who have some serious girl talk on the agenda. I haven’t sat at the other line of booths that are next to the entrance - but they appear to be the place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink while waiting for a table. And then there’s the bar …

Often populated by small groups of professionals needing a post-work respite and/or the singletons, the bar offers high stools on the lower level, chairs on the carpeted side, AND (most importantly) a solid array of drinks and apps.

Spataro’s full bar offers a varied menu of wines (by the glass and bottle) and cocktails. Although a wine drinker first and foremost, I break form for the delectable Hemingway Daiquiri. Margarita drinkers beware: there is not much to Spataro’s version - maybe two ounces of liquid in the martini glass - yes, MARTINI glass - filled with ice cubes …?! I needed a straw since tilting it even a fraction caused the ice to fall out.

Margarita mishap aside, Spataro’s bar service is attentive and helpful. In fact, they went so far as to pull out a ladder to pat down the ceiling when my fellow cocktailer spilled her drink there (apparently her tall skinny glass hit the carpeted floor at just the right angle to shoot the liquid in her full drink straight up with amazing force - be sure to look for our “mark” on the ceiling when you’re there).

There are few bars in town that offer a variety of seating options and a wonderful cocktail menu … Spataro is fab all around.

Welcome aboard kissmekate. Great review. If I swam in those circles I would be sure to check out this place. Look forward to future posts. How’s the Elephant Bar? Is that up next?

If I ever find myself at Elephant Bar, I’ll be sure to give it a fair review.
