… and what they’re doing about it is turning on the air conditioning.

Both the state and SMUD set records Monday for power demand. SMUD says it may set another today. SMUD’s old record was set almost exactly a year ago.

I like to turn my AC down to 70 at night so that I can cuddle up in my sheets and be oh so comfortable.

There are people who don’t have air conditioning where they live or work. There are people who have broken air conditioners. There are people who have air conditioners that don’t work very well.

There are people who drive their vehicles with the windows rolled down, even when the temperature is over 100 degrees. (I assume that if they had the money to get their car’s air conditioner fixed, they would).

There are people who work outside.

Nice to see you back in the comments, adamant, as we’ve lacked your distinct breed of snarkiness in the last couple weeks.

Does anyone know if it’s illegal to drive with those mesh sunshade things that adhere to the inside of your car windows with little suction cups? I picked some up at lunchtime for $6.99/set at Tognotti’s, and they’re heavenly. (I know enough not to drive with the mylar sunshade in my windshield, by the way.)

You may want to ask your “KA 4993,” I’m sure he/she would know.

10-4, Roger that. I think the packaging said not to drive with them in, but then I was distracted by the wording of how to take the shades off the windows and put them into their protective storage case. It actually said to “fold them like tacos.” I guess the manufacturers weren’t considering pre-made taco shells, or the fact that some of us just go to Del Taco for our fix and don’t fold our own.

There’s gotta be a special “If it’s over 100 degrees” rule exemption, as there should be with dress codes when it’s this hot.
