Does showing your sacramento mean that you: Think that you are bigger, hipper, and more important than you actualy are. That you want to be “Big and Important” but you are just never going to quite make it. Kind of like being a star of a show on CW31. You are there but not really all that much..

I don’t just show it, I wave it around and hit people in the face with it.

For a lot of people, it seems like “showing your Sacramento” means a compulsively self-effacing shame about living here, or, like people who gripe about parking two blocks, people who
live here but have difficulty coming to grips with the fact that this city isn’t just a suburb.

For me, it’s more like a serious attitude problem that has resulted from listening to a few too many folks accuse Sacramento of being something it’s not (tiny, cow town, nothing to do, etc.) based on faulty or secondhand information (ex: people who drive up I-80 and see the North Natomas shopping center and assume that is downtown Sacramento). Maybe it’s an outgrowth of civic pride, or having seen too much evidence in my research into local history, or maybe it’s just the fact that I’m a Chicagolander by birth and used to having an attitude problem about where I live.

I think we show our Sacramento when we talk about our trees. It’s like they’re some alien life form that we’ve somehow coaxed into surviving in our harsh climate. I think our “city of trees” moniker is well deserved considering the USGS codifies this area as semi-desert, but let’s all just take a breath and appreciate that water+soil+tree=trees. It’s not a miracle, just a nice part of living here.

whenever lost while driving, i use the sun’s position in the sky to navigate north, east, south or west. as there is no other geographical feature to base my direction. consequently, i never drive outside the grid at noon.

I tell people about the time I met Stan Atkinson at a Mailboxes Etc. every chance I get (like this one!!). That’s how I show my Sacramento. Also…I sigh and grumble everytime someone mentions Mark S Allen.

I show my Sacramento when I think that driving 20 miles is too far to go for anything! I can get everything I need within a 10 mile radius.

Then I snap out of it when I remember the miles I drove in Montana and Wyoming..where it was not uncommon to drive 2.5 hours to get to the dr, a movie theater, a concert, or a mall! My brother still does it!

One way you can show your Sacramento is by shopping at L’Image Beauty Boutique, because they have “treasures, which until now have only been found in Europe, New York and Los Angeles.”

During a trip this week to a state that will be unnamed (I will only say it was in a region that still sells confederate flag memorabilia in otherwise reputable gift shops) I found myself pouting about the lack of farmers markets and public transportation and the horrible humidity. I was actually missing our 90 degree spring weather. So, I guess my Sacramento was showing!
