We should all be having more unprotected sex. The fact is we need more people to support our debt fueled economy. Less dependency on foreign and illegal labor, more workers to support a retiring baby boom generation, a spent social security and medicade/medicare program, the list goes on and on. Have atleast four or five per couple. That would solve most of the issues we have looming right around the corner.

You'd make a great sex educator takeiteasy. "Don't have sex until you're married kids. End of story."

People should always be held accountable for their actions. It is not being held accountable and being irresponsible that is making this statistic so high. STDs are avoidable. End of story. Having one doesn't make the person bad, just irresponsible. It's 5pm, do you know where your kids are?

Hecaksac I'm definitely open to the media salaciousness angle. However I do think that a 40% STD rate among 15-24 is absolutely horrifying. It's a public health nightmare and I think it's harder to make the case that this is irresponsible reporting. Helping curb an epidemic by getting the facts out there is a pretty noble goal.

i got this from the cdc:

Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year.

so it's not some new epidemic, it's the local news trying to be salacious and scandalous

also, i don't think education will help with that specific problem, although vaccination will. once again from the cdc:

HPV infection can occur in both male and female genital areas that are covered or protected by a latex condom, as well as in areas that are not covered. While the effect of condoms in preventing HPV infection is unknown, condom use has been associated with a lower rate of cervical cancer, an HPV-associated disease

The only thing I'm "intollerant" of is bad spelling...education, education, education. The same thing applies to reducing the number of STD cases in Sacramento--education...without fornication. Or something like that. Makes me REALLY glad I'm not on the meat market right now.

The quote in the article of that 19yr old guy Lamar Lacy, said "You can tell is someone has an STD, There are a lot of fast girls and if she's coming on to me and doesn't really know me, she's done it with other guys and might have a disease" is ignorant at best. I applaud his wisdom in being cautious and knowing to wear a condom, but his idea that you can tell if someone has a disease if she's a "fast girl" is ludicrous! Beware the quiet and plain girls as well! And beware all the teenage guys! People need to have safe sex with any and all new partners, and why do any of them think they can "tell" if someone has contracted an STD? Does it give you a special glow or something. Stupid freaks.

You people are so intollarant of lifestyles other than your own. You should be more understanding and not so quick to judge. People with chlamydia, HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes, hepatitis B and HPV need love and affection as much as (if not more than) other groups- be they muslim, homo/bi/trans/hetero/etcsexual, illegal immigrants, economically disadvantaged, or even the "virally impacted" [(C)2007 TS]" We are all people who make choices. Holding us accountable, or even pointing out our differences, is just wrong. Who are you to say that HAVING herpes is worse than NOT HAVING herpes?

So get off you high horse and forget about sending us to viral camps. It's never gonna happen. And shame on you for pointing out differences between us. What ever happened to "diversity"-- not to mention saving them poor little herpes bugs. Maybe we could get "endangered species" protection...

Well, we already know that 20% or more of sexually active adults are HPV positive, so that's accounts for at least half that number.
