The street view thing makes my job a little easier. Aerials are great for looking at real estate, but it's nice to be able to see what's going on from the street.

You can't make out very much detail beyond 10 feet or so though. I find it odd that they have street views of the freeway. I guess that would be good to know how many lanes are on the off ramps.

Well, Google does allow you to opt out of a photo if you're caught in one. But I think it would be difficult to ban the photography that Google does without infringing on the rights of street photographers.

I've used the street view feature when planning trips to other cities, so I can get an idea of where I'll be going. Other times, it's just nice to explore. It's hard to imagine it being a massive invasion of privacy if it's not using facial-recognition associating your name with your picture/location, so that it would be possible for someone to find out where you were on that given date.

Honestly, this really bothers me, and has ever since it was announced last year. Can anyone really tell me a worthwhile use for this other than confirming that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy on even our quiet neighborhood streets?

And I'm no tech-adverse guy either, I just hate the thought of being caught on camera for the world to see without me ever knowing it. It's a little too Orwellian for my tastes.
