Today’s reporting in the Bee by Bizjak and Lillis has some dissection of the City’s stance on what to do about the current Power Balance Pavilion location once a proposed new downtown arena gets built.
Council member Ashby assures her constituents that reuse of the arena site after 2015 is “part of the deal.” But there is the little problem of the land being unsuitable for development due to flood risk. Gee, I wonder when City officials and landowners expect that moratorium to be lifted?
City officials and landowners say they believe the moratorium should be lifted by 2015, when the city and Kings are likely to need to sell.
I added the emphasis, City officials added the peyote-fueled insanity.
Oh, and once the site is ready to be developed, you better believe folks have big plans:
[The city-sponsored Natomas site re-use committee co-chaired by Councilwoman Ashby and Assemblyman Richard Pan, D-Sacramento] has a short list of potential projects, including a health care center, a high-tech campus or a university.
University, eh? Why such limited horizons? Why not a Disneyland Natomas? Why not relocate the Capitol building? How about a Space Port?
Okay now I’m just being mean. I do think Natomas deserves to come out on the plus side of a downtown arena proposal. But I think the folks selling that plan are treating us like children.
