iFeliz cumpleanos a ‘Comidas de Sac’!

Posted at 9:57 AM by RunnerGirl in Local Celebs (8 comments)

Our very own sac-eats is 31 years old today — such a pup!

May the coming year bring him a new restaurant that features gourmet mayonnaise sandwiches; all-you-can-drink Pellegrino; and live music in the stylings of Django, Cannonball Adderly, JJ Johnson, and Bill Dendle/Eddie Erickson.

*Note to any native speakers of the Spanish language, please forgive my loose translation of “sac-eats,” and please feel free to offer your own translation.

Watcha’ Doing This Weekend?

In our ever-diligent pursuit to keep you well informed about the stuff that we, The Sac Rag board of directors, are planning to do with our down time, and consequently what you, The Sac Rag Readers, should think about doing with your down time since we, The Sac Rag board of directors, are screwed in to the local scene like a CFL bulb (since we respect a flex alert too), we bring you another edition of “Watcha’ Doing This Weekend?” In this edition we talk about college football, comedy, outdoor sports, the parting of a local celebrity, and cheese. Approaching Graswich critical mass

Posted at 3:30 PM by CoolDMZ in CBS13/CW31, Local Celebs, Sac Bee (7 comments)

When longtime Bee columnist R.E. Graswich left his post, you assume it was for greener pastures. And now I realize it was for a greener pasture, a verdant meadow, and a lilac-filled prarie as well… First it was Sac Mag, and SacMag.com, and then more recently it was The Scoop on CBS13. And then on Friday afternoon I heard him doing the afternoon news on KFBK with Kitty O’Neal. Will you soon be able to order up Graswich in any fashion that suits you? A Graswich flavor at Vic’s perhaps? A Graswich roll at Kru? Graswich On Demand?

Maybe R.E. can comment here about what would be in his scoop at Vic’s…

Local bands On Demand

Posted at 2:32 AM by Stickie in Local Celebs, Music (2 comments)

If you have Comcast On Demand, you can see two of the Sacramento area’s best bands featured in the Music Video section.

The new video by !!! for the single “Must Be The Moon” from their latest album Myth Takes (name stolen from Robert Aspirin?) is sexy, anxious and just plain wacky. Filmed in Willemina’s in Old Sac and someone’s Victorian house, this hard-driving dance number perfectly represents the hedonistic nature of the band, with make-up design stolen from Adam Ant. Lots of chickens, too!

There is also a 14 minute video from The Mother Hips, who (thank god) did not spend long on their brief hiatus. The video is a behind the scenes look at the recording of their new album Kiss the Crystal Flake and features a few different songs.

RW Shauvon update #1

Posted at 11:57 AM by CoolDMZ in Local Celebs, Television (2 comments)

I’m going to take the liberty of following up on RonTopofIt’s earlier post introducing us to Real Worlder Shauvon by giving my take on last night’s premiere and my thoughts on Real World Season 38…

Hey winners!

Posted at 8:55 AM by RunnerGirl in Local Celebs, Sac Rag News (8 comments)

You’ll each be glad to know that The Sac Rag was represented well at this past Sunday’s Streets of London Pub Quiz.

With the mental power of sac-eats, Stickie, and RunnerGirl — plus two of Stickie’s most attractive and charming friends — we answered the most questions correctly and brought home the top prize (and the ever-important bragging rights.) We scored 28 out of 30.

Sacramento gets Real (again)

Posted at 8:01 AM by RonTopofIt in Arts & Entertainment, Local Celebs, Local Nooz, Television (9 comments)

I am not sure how I missed this one (oh, that’s right, I had no idea the show was still on television), but the 38th installment of MTV’s “The Real World” will feature a local gal by the name of Shauvon. Fans of the show might put together that this marks the second consecutive season of the show featuring a Sacramento native. Not to mention the 29th cycle of American’s Next Top Model which included yet another River City product.

So, rather than go on and on about how lame The Real World is or how they simply cast the same “characters” each season, I want to know what you think about Sacramento’s knack for producing reality show contestants. Are we just so diverse and cultured that we can’t help but kick out well rounded, dynamic individuals? Or perhaps our town is just now moving into the mainstream of hip?

How says you, Sacramento?

Why lie, Keith Lowell Jensen needs more exposure

Posted at 12:43 PM by CoolDMZ in Film, Local Celebs (1 comment)

Why lie, Keith Lowell Jensen needs a drinkAn early screening of local comedian and filmmaker Keith Lowell Jensen’s new feature-length documentary, “Why Lie? I Need A Drink,” based on his blog of the same name, is being presented tomorrow night at Fools Foundation. KLJ will be in attendance to answer your questions and will take your comments on the rough cut of his film. Chances are he won’t be wearing the banana costume for that.

Chainman

Posted at 1:47 AM by Stickie in Local Celebs (13 comments)

Has anyone else around Midtown encountered Chainman? A.K.A. Chainguy? A.K.A. Chaindude (I hear he is called that around the Beach Hut Deli)?

For those of you whom have not had the pleasure, Chainman is a fairly normal looking guy, although his style is a little Venice Beach for Sacto. Normal, except for the two chains wrapped around his fists. He prefers chains with thin torus-shaped links and a stainless-steel veneer. They each appear to be 6 feet in length. I wonder what his deal is with those chains.

He jangles as he walks. Usually, before seeing Chainman, you hear him. Down the street. Around the corner. Tonight, it was a few aisles over at Safeway. I was getting some Kefir and heard the distinctive chink-chink-chink somewhere near the “lunch” aisle. Spooky. (Sidenote - Is anyone else bugged by the crappy reorganize of the S Street Safeway?)

I was a little spooked. Then I giggled. Then, I hoped I didn’t have an encounter with Chainman while giggling, for that would be tough to explain, so I got spooked again.

Keep an ear out for Chainman.

Another Local Obsessive Fan

Posted at 9:51 PM by RunnerGirl in Local Celebs (4 comments)

Sacramento’s Randy Jennings’ 15 minutes just got extended by a bit by noting on this here blog that he is featured in the June 22, 2007 issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Chosen as this issue’s “Obsessive Fan of the Week,” Randy collects Arnold Schwarzenegger memorabilia and runs an Arnold fan site.

Props to Entertainment Weekly for listing us as just “Sacramento” and not “Sacramento, CA.”
