Sacramentan is America’s Third Top Model

Posted at 9:01 PM by CoolDMZ in Fashion, Local Celebs, Television (1 comment)

St. Francis H.S. alum Analeigh Tipton finished third in the 11th cycle of America’s Next Top Model tonight, which I believe means that she wins the ceremonial title of Greater Midwest’s Next Top Model and takes the national throne if and when the other two are unable to serve out their terms.

I’m honestly surprised that she didn’t at least finish second, though she did totally blow it toward the end there. I just never thought Samantha would get that far, considering she looked like an Applebee’s server and couldn’t walk on the runway, which as job skills go is crucial when you’re a model. However I have a history of being terrible at calling these things.

Sacramento gets the “Colbert Bump”!

Posted at 8:00 AM by CoolDMZ in Kevin Johnson, Television (8 comments)

After being twice admonished by reader Brambles for not blogging the KJ appearance on Colbert (I think partly I blanked because it was supposed to be on tonight, and not on the 11th) I finally checked it out. Thank Jeebus for the online television. I myself have gone without cable for a few years now and mostly not had to look back, what with the plethora of online options, and the sublime unintentional comedy of “One Tree Hill.” Next week: a 1920s fantasy episode written by Chad Michael Murray. That is can’t miss TV right there. But I’m digressing…

What do we think of Analeigh?

Posted at 12:00 PM by CoolDMZ in Local Celebs, Television (10 comments)

The latest iteration of America’s Next Top Model premiered last night with another local product, St. Francis High School grad Analeigh Tipton (the Bee’s Leigh Grogan has been tracking this, of course). As you can see by the photo, Analeigh is 17 feet tall and is a proponent of peace.

In her audition she shared a creepy, funny-scary story about almost being sold to a Saudi prince. One wonders whether that hookup was brought to you by a modeling ad on Craigslist…

Did you see? What did you all think? Personally I think she might be a contender. Also watch out for the awkward Frenchie. Seriously, she looks like if they pick on her she might snap and kill a bitch.

Vote for the Worst!

Posted at 6:08 PM by Stickie in Fox40, Local Media, Television (No comments)

Fox 40 reported this weekend on the Web site Vote for the Worst, which is arguably the #1 fan site there is for American Idol. Since 2004, Sacramento resident Sean Fromer has run this site which aims to embrace those deliciously bad contestants and keep them on the show as long as possible. For big AI fans, this is the place to go for the snarkiest commentary and breaking AI news.

Mark S. Allen ON IDOL?!?

Posted at 7:38 AM by sac-eats in CBS13/CW31, Local Media, Television (4 comments)

According to the AP, local personality and second horseman of the apocalypse Mark S. Allen may be filling in for Ryan Seacrest on American Idol. From the AP:

Ryan Seacrest will be taking an immediate leave of absence from hit Fox Television show American Idol. According to his publicist, Seacrest is dealing with a “medical issue” but should be back on Idol within two months. Seacrest will also be taking a break from his popular Los Angeles radio show on KIIS-FM. Filling in for Seacrest at KIIS will be Los Angeles DJ Dave Styles. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Seacrest’s spot on Idol will be filled by Mark S. Allen, a popular entertainment reporter from Northern California.

If this goes through, they might have to widen the doorways at Good Day Sacramento to allow MSA’s inflated head to fit.

***UPDATE*** Local well-known media blogger “Radio Matthew”, when not contacted about this story, was unable to confirm or deny the veracity of the claims. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this as the day goes on.

Fieri pushing his competition?

Posted at 8:01 AM by CoolDMZ in Food, Television (2 comments)

Guy FieriI have to think that the new ads for TGI Fridays, featuring Tex Wasabi’s own Guy Fieri (left), are irksome to the employees of Tex Wasabi’s. Why go to some kooky fusion mess (feel free to use that as an album title or band name) that got bad reviews on some local blog when you can go right around the corner to Friday’s for the kooky fusion mess you know and love?

Netflix has no limits (sort of)

Posted at 6:02 AM by RonTopofIt in Arts & Entertainment, Film, Links, Lists, Technology, Television (13 comments)

Popular video rental company Netflix apparently is offering its subscribers unlimited access to movies and television shows to watch via the Web on their personal computers (NOTE: This feature is only available to folks using IE 6 or higher!).

The feature will be open to all subscribers already on one of their unlimited monthly video rental plans, with no extra charge.

I currently subscribe to the “2 at-a-time (Unlimited)” plan and am still limited to 14 hours of online viewing. But with instant access to A Fish Called Wanda, Real Genius, and Zoolander, who is complaining?

On a local note, it is always fun to check out what folks are viewing in Sacramento (via Netflix)…

Attention “Reno 911!” fans

Reno 911
Dangle takes down Big Mike

Starting tonight at 2:00 a.m., CW31 will begin airing reruns of “Reno 911!,” the Comedy Central mockumentary-style show about Reno’s bumbling and offensive fictional sheriffs, starting with the show’s pilot episode from 2003. Reruns don’t currently seem to be airing on Comedy Central, so that’s a pretty good deal right there if you’re looking for some fun comedy viewing to tide you over until fall TV starts. Set your DVRs.

RW Shauvon update #1

Posted at 11:57 AM by CoolDMZ in Local Celebs, Television (2 comments)

I’m going to take the liberty of following up on RonTopofIt’s earlier post introducing us to Real Worlder Shauvon by giving my take on last night’s premiere and my thoughts on Real World Season 38…

Sacramento gets Real (again)

Posted at 8:01 AM by RonTopofIt in Arts & Entertainment, Local Celebs, Local Nooz, Television (9 comments)

I am not sure how I missed this one (oh, that’s right, I had no idea the show was still on television), but the 38th installment of MTV’s “The Real World” will feature a local gal by the name of Shauvon. Fans of the show might put together that this marks the second consecutive season of the show featuring a Sacramento native. Not to mention the 29th cycle of American’s Next Top Model which included yet another River City product.

So, rather than go on and on about how lame The Real World is or how they simply cast the same “characters” each season, I want to know what you think about Sacramento’s knack for producing reality show contestants. Are we just so diverse and cultured that we can’t help but kick out well rounded, dynamic individuals? Or perhaps our town is just now moving into the mainstream of hip?

How says you, Sacramento?
