Don’t “Call Curtis”!

Ouch indeed… Sam McManis blogs today about Curtis Carroll, a West Sac resident whose number is one digit away from the main line at CBS13/CW31.

he has recorded the following outgoing message on his home-answering machine:

If you thought you reached Channel 13 or Channel 31, home of adolescent anchoring, juvenile journalism and the worst newscast in the state, you didn’t. You got that number wrong. If you got the right number, leave a message. Thanks.

Why don’t you just tell me the name of the reporter you’d like to scream obscenities at…

  1. i know how to spell Kurtis Ming. the guy in the story is also named Curtis and i forgot to mention that in the post. they are both named Curtis/Kurtis, and the result of that is humorous because Call Kurtis is the name of the news segment starring Kurtis Ming, and Call Curtis is like hey call this other guy Curtis, whose number is close to that of CBS13 which employs Kurtis Ming.

  2. Ah okay, that makes a little more sense now. For the past hour I haven’t been able to follow your link to the Sac Bee. Guess the site is down or something.

  3. isn’t it “Kall Kurtis” like those nauseating stores like “Kozy Kollectibles”? bleargh. when did purposely misspelling things become cute/attractive?

  4. Hey CoolDMZ, a riddle for you: What do you call people who comment on blog entries before reading what other people have said?

  5. Why do folks slam on CBS13? The news is pretty much fluff these days and if you exclude Sammy from the line up, thar be hot chicks spewing newsage. Hubba hubba!

  6. i called Kurtis one time. My problem was that there was this newscast in sacramento that was absolutely worthless. reporters would editorialize, report false information, air witness comments that were factually incorrect thus furthering confusion, they had aaron sorkin-like walk and reports through the newsroom, and 2 to 3 people in the weather center for the only obvious purpose of giving Dave Bender someone to talk to (as if the viewer weren’t enough). Needless to say the “Call Worthless” team couldn’t help me. a sad day indeed.

  7. @Talking: There are usually two or three people behind Cody Stark during his weather segments on Good Day. These are interns that are doing other roles at the studio. I’ve no doubt that the two or three people with Dave Bender are actually working in some way or another and are not just ornamental conversation pieces. And to be honest, I really doubt you called Kurtis to complain that—if you did, you seriously need a hobby. Yes, you: Put down the phone and the bag of Cheetos, put a shirt on, take a few steps outside and go find a hobby in this huge world.

  8. who the hell’s talking about stark or good day matthew? i said bender and cbs13. and they are anchors that are talking to him in the center. do i need to send you screenshots from now on? chris picke and brandi hitt are not interns, although they should be demoted to the position. do you read whole posts before commenting? and that last part about the shirt and cheetos…very insightful and clever. hopefully that is a sample of the wit in your blog that keeps the readers coming back for more. touche!

  9. Ugh, TP you are mashing on the busty babes of CBS13! For those of us shirtless Cheetos munching slack-jawed idiots, the busty babes of CBS13 spewing newsieness is what it’s all about.

  10. @TP: I mentioned Stark to bring up a point later on in the post. Do you read whole comments before retorting?

@Lynn: Yes, he is. But his name is spelled with a K.

  11. no you’re right. i’m just upset that i didn’t get my studio tour thus becoming the number one fan that you are. your infatuation with chris burroughs (i don’t give a F how it’s spelled BTW) is apparent by your blog postings. you take such offense at something you should be looking at objectivly. you are being failed by them as well. i’m sure they are nice people but they suck at what they are supposed to do. these news stations are given free time on air in exchange for delivering news all while collecting ad revenue. it’s shameful. now please, i don’t want to argue with you anymore i’m sure it’s boring the good people who come here…if they even read down this far. you are young, 20 right? which i don’t mean be condecending, but someday you will ask more of the news beyond gimmicks, childish humor, and dead air time filled with conversation that lacks substance or relevance. misinformation is hurtful to all those who watch these 2 stations. to give you an example try looking for democracy now. you can find it on local access 17 late at night..around 12 or so…or you can catch the podcast…which you are familiar with. you’re a smart guy i can tell, please, i think you and all of us deserve more than “how does it make you feel” reporting.

  12. @TP: I’m not arguing with you. I give an opinion just like everyone else on here. If the SacRag team didn’t want opinions, they would have comments disabled. As for Democracy Now, I do not have cable, and even if I did Public Access here in the Bay Area is different from the Sacramento area.

And I’m glad you commented about the studio tour. It’s exciting to know there are people who read and remember my blog entries. Maybe I’ll put some ads up and make start making some money off my blog!

  15. CBS13Fan…aka Kurtis Ming…or your gay lover…YOU SUCK! How sad that you have to give yourself positive reviews.

So when are you going to “publicly” announce your little secret? Don’t you think it’s time you face the world and come out of the closet?

  16. First of all, I’m not Kurtis!! Secondly, you have real problems!! You must not feel very good about yourself to put others down like you do. I know Kurtis and he’s not gay!!! He is such a great person that your lousy comments mean nothing to him. Don’t they say if you accuse someone of something, it means that you really are yourself??? Maybe your closet needs cleaning!!!

  17. CBS13Fan, since you’re such a “good friend” of his, pass on a message to him. Let him know there are many, many, many people who DESPISE him deservedly and wish nothing but EVIL upon him.

Yes, Kurtis Ming is GAY. If you knew him so well, you would know he was GAY. I know Kurtis’ ex boyfriend and he has nothing nice to say about Kurtis.

  19. Kurtis or Curtis is a no talent. That’s why he has the spot. Destroying people and businesses with what little he tells the public about just to get on air. He is nothing but a glorified snap shot news reporter. Every problem that arises in a person’s life, not satisfied, they should have been treated better and the best one I WANT MY MONEY BACK after having merchandise way past a contract is something else. You people are whiners who jump on a band wagon to get a little something back, because you couldn’t afford it to begin with. Cry the poor me, I’m old and so forth. Hey, if you are that old stop driving, stop signing contracts, and stay home or BE SUPERVISED. Remember your time is short and you are not fooling GOD. He knows all schemes. And people like K or Curtis is at the top of His list of Psalm 37 the wicked.
