Mama Needs A Hoagie.

Yeah, it’s 9:45 a.m. and I’m already thinking about where I can get a true Italian hoagie this far from Philadelphia, but back off: I’m pregnant.  Just be glad you missed yesterday’s frantic run to Starbucks for a combination donut, veggie tray and coffee breakfast.  Anyway there are fake hoagies and then there are the right ones, the ones I haven’t been able to find in California.  Who can point me in the direction of the best hoagie Sacramento has to offer? I’m looking at you, SacEats.

  1. They used to make a pretty good and semi-authentic Hoagie at Times Square on Fulton Ave but I haven’t been there in a couple of years. It was near Alta-Arden on Fulton

  2. I seriously think that episode is what spurred this desire. Somehow the site of those sandwiches has creeped into my brain and I can’t let it go. What to do????? Drinking contests are off limits due to the aforementioned pregnancy.

  3. Good to know, thanks!! In desparation I had a burrito the size of my head. I guess that’s the California version of a hoagie though so it worked out.

  4. taylors market on freeport makes the best sandwiches…my wife is an east coaster and swears by them. congrats on the pregnancy. i hope you can close your ears to all the stories other parents tell about their “trying times” as they attempt to disguise it as advice. maybe just stay inside for 10 months.

  5. Congrats. I hear hoagies cause triplets. Quads if you mix hoagies and Starbucks…

  6. I am confused about the regional terms for sandwiches. What makes a hoagie different from a sub, grinder or hero??? Is it that funny Italian sauce in a shaker bottle?

There is a new Italian deli on 16th and… F Street? In that little shopping center on the East side of the street.

Unfortunately, Italian Imports on Folsom and 50th is now closed. Sad!!

  7. I loved the 30 Rock episode about sandwiches!

My sis lives in South Jersey and they call em hoagies..not po boys or subs. What about Dads?

  8. HeyMeg— just so you know, they warn you off cold cuts due to a very small but fairly dangerous chance of a particular bacteria. However, hot sandwiches are just fine.

As I’m not up on the specific distinctions of a hoagie versus a sub or a grinder, I’m just giving you the general heads’ up.

(I want a cold sandwich so very very much. With bacon.)

  9. Don’t forget that you can’t dye your hair for 10 months either…oh yeah, and feta cheese is supposed to be off limits too.

It’s a wonder women have children at all. Good luck and best wishes!!

  10. RUI (riding under the influence) is a very serious problem: Every year more people are injured while RUI than in all the helicopter/car collisions in the world. When you take the reigns (sp?), it’s YOUR responsability. Friends don’t let friends ride (or kiss) horses while drunk.
