Kicking the music scene up a notch since 1979
A new player entered the crowded field of crappy music on the radio dial today as RADIO 94.7 launched at noon on the air and online.
RADIO 94.7 features music from artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Green Day, U2, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Sublime, Nirvana, Linkin Park, Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots along with music from new bands like Muse, The Killers, Train, Kings of Leon and many, many others.

Just last week I was lamenting that I really need a local radio station that will take me back to those great days of yesteryear – err…1992.
You know… living in a house with 5 guys, crappy jobs, friends on meth, adding a quart of oil per day to my crappy car, thinking Mickey’s Big Mouth was a pretty good beer.
I can’t wait to tune in.

I’ll give it a shot, but is this any different from 100.5. KWOD 106.5 was great till it got overrun by all that soft emo crap. No home for bands like Shiny Toy Guns, Blaqk Audio and [new] Depeche Mode anymore, except maybe KYDS 91.5 if I get a hint of signal from them.

+1 KYDS. what i have a difficult time wrapping my pea-sized mind around is why -high school- radio is the best radio this town has to offer??? props to KYDS, boo to the other stations.

I do like KYDS but I don’t think I know when I’m supposed to listen. Every time I tune in it is something like Led Zeppelin. Don’t get me wrong, I lurve the Zepmeister but if I want that I can listen to the Eagle since it is easier to tune. Stickie – you know what I like, when should I tune in to KYDS?
I feel you, cogmeister. If you’re looking for one station to fulfill your needs then you can probably find it online if it doesn’t exist on the air. But personally I seek out vastly different music at different times based on mood. Sunday mornings it’s bluegrass, Saturday afternoons it’s that doo-wop show on KVMR, and sometimes … Friday late mornings? It is 90s rock for that “oh I TOtally remember this song” feel. And listening to commercial radio between the breaks might just do it for those times.

Is KYDS still simulcasting KSSU in their off hours? Listen then.
Too much KYDS makes you realize that they are sometimes playing tapes of music blocks.

Is it me, or does it seem like over half the radio stations out here play a format of primarily 90s music?
For alternative music, I like listening to UCD’s station, KDVS: but I suspect it has an even weaker signal than KYDS. As soon as I drive east of West Sacramento, it gets bumped off by Capital Public Radio. Not that I have anything against jazz and All Things Considered; but after a while the programming starts sounding, well, geriatric.

This station announced today that it is changing its call letters to KKDO (they had inherited KSSJ, but not KSSJ’s love of Kenny G)

I love this radio station, not that I like ALL the music they play… but it’s a big plus from hearing the same 40 songs on 98 rock day after day. What is wrong with most radio stations today?? Who really wants to hear that crap over and over again?… but yes, a breath of fresh air is a good way to put it
