On cbs13.com this morning, I noticed a headline that read, “Dad Arrested After Drunk Driving Lesson” and I had to stop and read it again. Someone was busted for taking a lesson on how to drive drunk? Stick with vodka, and be sure to carry lots of minty fresh chewing gum? Drive the speed limit, but not under it?
Sacramento Police have arrested a man for teaching his 12-year-old daughter how to drive while he was intoxicated.
Ah, I see.
Police say Gorman was drunk when he was teaching his daughter how to drive by pulling in and out of the driveway.
Man, it’s Sunday afternoon, you’ve had a few pops hanging out in your yard and your soon to be teen-aged daughter asks if you can teach her how to drive. You tell her sure, but only by pulling in and out of the driveway. She says, “Great!” and you grab the keys…
WHO hasn’t been in this situation before? Tough times I tell you, tough times.

What I need to know is the proximity of this guy’s driveway to the intersection of Calvine and Jacinto. Like, if his property is on that corner that’s one thing. If he lives in Citrus Heights though…

I was thinking he was driving home after one of those “The police will show you how bad your reaction time is after you’ve had 6 beers” type of exhibitions. The rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would have said, is MUCH more interesting, as I can totally identify with him (except my kids are much younger). But the article didn’t ‘splain how she got from her driveway to a real street.

Just in case someone from Channel 13 is reading this post, a more correct headline would have been “Drunk Dad Arrested After Driving Lesson” Drunk should describe the Dad, not the driving lesson.
