Radio station 100.5 The Zone has been made over as Now 100.5.
CBS Radio has relaunched Hot AC “100.5 The Zone†KZZO Sacramento as Adult CHR “Now 100.5″ playing “Today’s Best Hits Without The Rap†at noon today.
“Without the Rap.” Love it.
The first hour consisted of:
Daughtry – What About Now, Nickelback – This Afternoon, Lady Gaga – Bad Romance, The Script – Breakeven, Train – Calling All Angels, Pink – Who Knew, Bon Jovi – Who Says You Can’t Go Home, Ke$ha – Your Love Is My Drug, 3 Doors Down – Kryptonite, Shinedown – Second Chance, Uncle Kracker – Smile, David Cook – Light On, Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire, Kris Allen – The Truth, Theory Of A Deadman – Not Meant To Be, Adam Lambert – Whataya Want From Me, Daughtry – Home, John Mayer – Heartbreak Warfare
Taking a real chance, huh?
Wow, another station I need to remove from my pre-sets. More podcasts and Pandora in the car for me.

lol, “Without the Rap” sounds like a subtle way of saying, “without that annoying Hip Hop music”.

Where is the old school hip hop station? Why should NWA, B-I-G, 2-live-crew, and salt and peppa be thursday morning between 10:45 and 11:00AM treats? Or where is the classic rock station? I really don’t like hearing U2 on the Eagle.

So they did their no rap promo Then played “Your Love is My Drug” where Kesha rhymes over a looped beat and references an 808 drum. No rap *wink wink*. You know what we mean. None of that uppity music.

The can leave out the rap if they want, but it’s still spelled similar: CRAP. The new format is a waste of frequency. They went from bad to worse.

No books on tape for this crew, huh?

Turty, do you actually have a tapedeck in your car?

Well- no, but I just transfer the books on tape to an 8-track at home, and play those in the car.

Embarrassing. Why does Sacramento need five stations serving the same purpose — providing easy listening for dental offices and elevators?

It is very sad. =( I am one of the annoying people who enjoy hearing the same song over and over again (until I am sick of it, then I never want to hear it again). The trouble comes when ALL the music sounds essentially the same ALL the time… Where do we go from here? Mono-culture is kinda freaky and we seem to be transitioning to it. country/rock/rap/r&b fusion, listen while you pound down your value meal!

I’m sorry to hear that the radio scene in Sacramento has taken such a huge hit. It does make a sort of sad sense, though. Most people who run radio stations are looking to make money, and they make money by getting the widest possible audience. Taking chances on diverse music is generally seen as a great way to tank your advertising profits, so more and more radio stations are going to endless rehashing of the top 40. I’m not entirely sure that the playlist you laid out is precisely suitable for a dentist’s office, but it certainly isn’t progressive in any sense of the word. Pandora really is a wonderful invention that brings the diversity back to radio.
