The Bee reports that Temple Coffee got some proof that their coffee is the finest in the land. Coffee Review recently scored Temple’s Guatemala Hunapu Antigua Bourbon 97/100, which is the highest score for any coffee in North America this year. They are already sold out of their current offering, but squirreled some aside to share with locals on Saturday from 8-11am at both locations.
Congrats to roaster Ed Whitman and Temple Coffee on this fandabulous feat!

They have been roasting their own coffee since March. Before that, they had it roasted for them.

I went and tried this. Unfortunately, unlike other beverages, I really don’t have the skills to be able to properly judge the coffee in relation to other coffees and be able to describe why it is superior. The tasting notes really helped, as I am used to picking out certain flavors in wine and beer but not quite sure how to identify them in coffee.
A few reactions, however. “Yum” is the main one. The other is that I was surprised at the complexity of the flavors and how much there was going on in this one cup. There were tons of floral flavors wrapped up in the earthiness and a lovely chocolate and berry undertone to the whole thing. The floral notes are what really got me, as I’m not used to getting things in coffee that remind me of lavender, lemonbalm and jasmine. Really impressive.
