When I saw it the finished “Alhambra Project” the other night in all its neon-sign glory it reminded me of a former public art project. Am I crazy, or was there at one time a giant laser beam running east-west from Old Sac toward Fair Oaks, as if the Broderick Boys were trying to destroy the El Dorado Hills with a destructo-ray?
In my research I also stumbled upon the Sacramento Arts Commission site, [snark] circa 1997 [/snark]. I don’t think we’re supposed to be looking at it, though–navigation links on some of the subpages point directly to documents on somebody’s “S drive”…
As far as I’m concerned, it’s about time something was done with that giant green canvas of a resevoir tank. I kinda like the design, space invaders comparisons notwithstanding.
As for sacculture.com, one would expect the arts commission to have a better website, no?

Art?!? I thought the tank was cracking and we were just getting to see the inside where Dr. X uses his mind control/global warming/virtual reality/world domination device(s).
Ah- I get it. Folsom lake? With the river? If only they would take a lesson from News 10 and make the giant circle multi-colored to indicate the condition of Folsom dam. Blue= all ok Green = caution Red= head for the hills. Art AND safety!

i would also suggest white for Broderick Boys destructo-ray emergency. give us at least 10 minutes to clear out.

When I saw the finished Alahambra project, I almost screamed. It was frightening. Like blue bolts of lightening or electricity and some weird grid. And the moon? While we are on the subject of public art and Safeways, what’s up with water tower-looking piece of art (?) at the new Safeway?

From what I understand the giant lazer beam we once had was screwing with airplanes and so we had to lose that lazer beam. What kind of city doesn’t have a giant ass lazer beam cutting across it’s sky? Damn!

Messing with airplanes is a bit beyond the Broderick Boys realm… they’re strickly local.
We just have to wait for SF to get a giant lazer beam and then suddenly Heather Fargo will want one too again also.
