I’d like to open up a forum for Sac Rag readers to suggest how the city should spend its $70 million surplus. I’ll start the discussion by suggesting buying out the contracts of Rick Adelman, Geoff Petrie, and Predrag Stojakovic. Arena schmarena, let’s win some games.

Forget the Kings. Help out Raley’s and spend it on infant formula.

DO NOT accept financial advice from CoolDMZ or the kid that played Arnold on “Diff’rent Strokes”.
Borrowing 70 million is not a surplus and low payments with a high interest rate on a personal loan is not a good deal either.
Did anyone else see Chronicles? That is an awesome movie!

“Of the $70 million, officials said half will go to nonprofit organizations.”
I.e.: It’ll go to homeless bums and people who have so many kids that they can’t pay for them. Money well spent, I say!
“The other half will go to citywide projects, such as a new 311 call center and a downtown police stations.”
I.e.: Raises, mind-numbingly expensive computer systems, and environmental impact studies of police stations on the community. Also money well spent!
The city wouldn’t want to waste any of its cash on river levy reinforcement, just hiring more cops, buying blighted properties, or even paying debt. That would be too productive.

Seriously ST is such a downer. Not to impugn DMZ’s financial savvy but I’m going to have to say the best possible most awesome thing would involve jet-packs and puppies in some delightful combination to be determined by committee. But then again this summer when there were free slurpies at 7-11 it put me off the charts with glee so something like that could be good too.
