I cannot get enough of The Seven Arms of Shiva. And no, I’m not talking about the destroyer of the world, I’m talking about the psych-trad-jazz project from local musician Chris Olsen, which I found via his blog. I could listen to his version of the Velvet Underground’s “After Hours” all day. In fact, I think I might.

Wow. Cool stuff. He lists Oliver Brown as an influence. I must highly reccommend you all check out Oliver Brown’s my space page. He is a ukelele god. I caught him live in Santa Cruz a few years back and he just thrills me to no end. He writes great love songs and silly songs and he’s the best.

why don’t we say, “If you like Daisy Spot, you’ll like Oliver”. Ha ha, sorry, couldn’t resist.

KLJ, I’ll take it one step further: if you have good taste, you’ll like both Daisy Spot and Oliver!

Wow! He also lists Eddie Condon as an influence. Eddie Condon and Condon’s Mob were awesome trad bands in the 40’s and 50’s. They were really something, even though they didn’t involve creepy hand dancing.

i wonder if he’s also a fan of Emmet Ray, the second greatest jazz guitarist in the world?

Ha ha. Sweet and Lowdown, such a great film. I don’t know why it got such a limited release. Go, see it now.

Hey, I’m glad you guys liked it, really. I didn’t expect interest to go beyond a stone’s throw of a few people I knew and maybe a few less tight-laced Trad Jazz nerds.
I’ll have to write a song called “The Sac Rag” now to commemorate this! Thanks again!

Ha! The Sac Rag! That is perfect. Olsen, I think you should write “The Sac Rag” regardless of this website.

Actually, I am so glad you found their website for me. I’ve made a few kinda half-assed attempts at finding anything out about those guys on the web. I saw them play in San Diego in 1995 or 96. Of it might have been at the Jubilee, I don’t really remember exactly where or when. So anyway, to answer the question, I remember liking them, but I haven’t really heard them in like ten years, and that was after limited exposure anyway.

And by “their website” I of course mean “A website”.
