No, not the allegations of word speculation. I’m talking about the fact that the Rag has become the place to go to bitch about KOVR’s lack of Paul Joncich and Jennifer Whitney. As evidenced by the most recent comment on my post from December, I believe it has erroneously come to be believed that The Sac Rag is the Web site of KOVR. If you haven’t been following that comment thread, it’s worth a read, especially in how it slowly evolves into the sentiment expressed by the comment from this morning, which seems to be either addressing KOVR management using the “open letter” format or as actual viewer feedback aimed at the wrong comments box. As such, please alert someone in a responsible position at News10 that traffic-tart Julie Durda is still on air! I’m sure they fired her long ago for her cringe-inducing cluelessness in front of the camera, but they apparently forgot to notify her. Her name should be changed to Milton.

I agree with the guy who posted the comment about Julie Durda. She is for sure one of the worst reporters I have seen on TV in a very long time. She is obviously very airheaded and can’t report if her life depended on it. I can’t believe News 10 allows her to still go on air. I tried to give her a chance but it has been long enough and she is still awful. I can’t stand to watch her any longer. I even emailed asking if she had a degree and she replied yes but wasn’t able to say from where or in what… a little fishy wouldn’t you say? Her Bio says she graduated from Sac state but I’m pretty sure that is just to fool people since it was changed only after I commented. last I checked she only had an AA. I thought a B.A degree is required for that type of work.

News10 afternoon traffic reporter Julie Durda � best known for her daily traffic Webcasts from 3:30 to 6 p.m. � will leave the station, effective Monday, July24, for a similiar position at KRON in San Francisco.
Durda will continue to cover traffic as well as become a VJ (video journalist – someone who shoots, reports and edits stories all on their own) in her new gig.
“I’m excited,” Durda tells us. “It’s been a great two years and everyone at (News10) has been very supportive. It’ll be a learning situation (being a VJ), but I’ve done a lot of editing and writing for reports I’ve done for the morning news.”

If you guys didnt know that Julie Durda was fresh out of college and she cant be that perfect like other old news anchors are. Thats why when people who major in broadcasting journalism are suppose to get a job at a small town or city for example Reno, Redding, or Santa Barbara, then after experience and years with that station then they can move up, like sacramento, Fresno and San Diego mid-size cities the best. But i remember she made mistakes like she didnt know what she was talking about. But I liked her hair hehe. But…Angel Cardenas will be taking over Julie’s spot in about 2 weeks. Cant wait for that. Peronsally i think being a traffic reporter is hard. sometimes you miss-pronouce words and get confused. but if Julie was a news anchor she probably be better. ‘Cause the only thing you do is read what you and the producer wrote on the telepromter. easy. but anywho yeah.

Yes, you got it straight, we think she is bad at traffic! Fine if you think she is good, but to say we are wrong is pretty lame since an opinion can’t be wrong. If you knew anything about the station she is now working for you would know why she is there. Obviously you don’t know much about the media. I am sure she won’t get much air time. If I were her, I would have stayed in Sac, but thank goodness for us viewers she didn’t. The new traffic guy, Angel, is much better. I am not saying you have to be perfect to be on television but give me a break she was clueless. Julie Durda was fresh out of American River not Sac State, she didn’t major in anything.

Thank goodness for the truth finally coming out. She does NOT have any type of a degree and it’s terrible that the news is all about looks now. There are plenty of talented people that went to school and worked hard for a degree that should have this job. Some people think that an education is little more important than jumping up and down in front of millions of fans that are only there to see your fake boobs. I praise this site and I’m on the band wagon to have her fired… get the heck out of Sacramento, and don’t come back! Oh and “Miguel” you can’t really stand up for a stupid person when you, yourself obviously don’t have much of an education, or at least can’t use spell check!

Poor Julie!!! She really got lucky getting her first gig on TV on the 19th largest market, and then moving to the 5th largest. I heard that she was an intern for the News10’s promotions department only for about six months and then she just said she wanted to be on TV, and the folks at the station gave her a chance. You are right, she doesn’t have a college degree! News10 gave her a great opportunity, which she wasted because she never improved, even with two years as a traffic reporter she continuously made mistakes on air. She was always horrible. Hopefully now that she’s in SF she’ll realize that she does need to use her brain (if she has any) and will start paying her dues. I’m sure she’ll give up and become a cheerleader again. Heheeh. To me she was an average looking girl, so i don’t think the looks could have helped her. I liked her body though.

She wasn’t even on for two years! She is full of lies, she may have worked for News 10 for two years doing random things as an intern, but she was only on air for about 6 months. I agree with everyone that she was horrible!

Why is it that all the people that stick up for Julie can’t spell or at least use spell check? The problem isn’t that she doesn’t have a degree, the problem is she lied about it and claims she does. It is sad that a station would hire her over other applicants out there who did go to school and worked hard. In that type of industry a degree is extremely important and the fact that she lied on her Bio and said she was a graduate of Sac State is upsetting. It is just like someone lying on their resume and then getting the job, how is that fair? I agree that she wasn’t very good.

Unless you know Julie personally, how do you know if she has a degree or not? And why does anyone really care? She is a friend of mine and I admire her for taking on challenges and risks. She may not have been the best reporter, but she is a great person. Its pretty sad that even after she has left News 10 that people still feel they need to complain about her. You are more than entitled to your opinion, but get over it…. you don’t have to watch or listen to her anymore.

I don’t believe anyone is saying she is a bad person, we are merely stating the fact that she was underqualified for the position and knowingly lied. That is why we care. If she was honest than I wouldn’t care one bit. She claims she graduated from Sac State but there is no proof that she was ever a graduate. That info is not hard to get, it is open to the public, so I am sure if someone wanted to really check they could. I am sure she is a great person, but being a great person doesn’t entitle you to lie and cheat to get ahead. That is the bottom line.

Wow, I happen to think Julie Durda does a great job on KRON now. I actually switched from KTVU within the past month and find myself enjoying this much better. She shows a level of professionalism and class that I expect for the news. I was getting tired of the bias opinionated programming from many other stations.
Makes my morning news viewing much more pleasant.

I used to know Julie a while back, and I think it is tragic that someone like her got what was coming to her…simply put, what goes around comes around…I mean a fake, bubbly, personality can only take you so far until people catch on to it. Maybe if she wasn’t so self-indulged and into herself she would have taken time out to pay attention to the people around her that were there for her before she was a cheerleader,reality star,news reporter,…etc…anyhow, I’m sure someone else somewhere will believe her lines of b.s. entitling her to another job..I feel sorry for that company when the you know what hits the fan…Julie evidentely has forgotten where she came from, and until she remembers things will always be a struggle for her.

I can’t agree more! Julie was nothing but a liar. She lied and cheated and in my opinion that is shameful. She was horrible at her job and I can’t believe two respected news stations even gave her the time of day. She used her looks and friends to get ahead and unfortunately when you don’t play fair it comes back to haunt you. I don’t have any ill-will towards her but I don’t respect her. I think the best thing for her to do would be to start new. If she wants to continue to be a reporter then she needs to go to school and work for it just like everyone else.

Julie Durda is now in Phoenix doing the morning traffic on KPHO. This is the first day I’ve seen her. She looks good but has stumbled about 10 times in three segments – Here I thought she might just be nervous on one of her first days — hmmm!!!

I used to work with Julia Durda at TGIFridays in Cupertino, Calif. At that time, she was a SF Niners cheerleader, no joke. You can look it up. I’m pretty sure she was with them for 2 seasons, if not..then just one. When she left Fridays (before I did), she told everyone she was headed down to San Diego to be a Charger cheerleader. Didn’t know if that actually happened or not…but she DID get a run on ABC’s “THE BACHELOR”. I don’t remember the season. I think it was with the Firestone guy… if not..then the one after that. She wasn’t a very memorable cast member.. I think she got kicked off somewhere after it was narrowed down to 10 ladies. Being a part of Julie’s personal life for a while, I can say that I don’t recall her ever going to college. She is 2 years my senior (I’m 24 at the time of writing this). I don’t think she was really all that great of a person. Vacuous is the first word that comes to mind… She broke a coworker of mine’s heart.. that was pretty mean. She wasn’t full of herself… just very… socially unaware… not too quick on the draw, know what I mean? Anyway… that’s Julia Durda from 2002- to about 2005.

After reading the comments I would have to agree with the people who think Julie was bad at reporting. why is everyone making a big issue out of Julie? We should all know she does not have extensive experience like other news Personalities do. Shes barely about to get her degree. Its something we should probably expect that shes not going to be perfect. Shes just trying to make a living and is interested in the broadcasting field. I’m sure 20 years from now she will improve and be better. By the way she is about to get her metorology degree. Wow, I can’t believe that Julie is getting this much run over being on TV…I mean she is going to be in the spotlight one way or another, that is her passion….She has always had a passion for anything involved with being in front of a camera…I used to date her for like a year and a half and she was a very kind and caring individual…she did have her flaws, but who doesn’t? You can’t knock her for her will and determination to get something accomplished…she is a real go-getter and won’t slow down for anything…I think it is great that everyone criticizes her for trying to better her life…regardless of the steps she has taken to get to where she is…somebody somewhere evidentely believes in her ability to get the job done….I mean for christ sake you only live once in this life and you may as well shoot for the moon while you still have the chance….Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes in life….I just don’t quite understand why everyone is trying to bring her down…it won’t work people…she is too strong willed to allow any of this to affect her…I am just glad to see that she is putting forth the effort in her life that everyone who gives a damn about their own should…The ones who are trying to bring her down are haters and obviously people who are jealous of the fact that she is making a name for herself…Life is all about getting knocked down and finding a way to get back up and keep fighting the fight….I wish Julie all the best.

I really stand neutral on this, but for the fact the she was good eye candy, I dont say she was that good of a reporter/anchor. Maybe she is not a good fit for the media circle. Think about this. 20 years ago the local news standard was more articulate than some national news platforms today. It’s a trend line. The vocabulary is changing and so is the sophistication of the listener. More people want to hear “like” and “whoa” and “no way”. More people want human flubs and reality which allows them to say – hey, that’s me. I could do that. More and more people want entertainment with news, personality. The viewing public is getting loose. No statement of good or bad. No judgement. Just observation of the game of life. JD is not an issue. She’s a product of the times; of creative resumes, monosyllabicism, looks, surface, disposables, temporary addresses and phone numbers, subtle discrimination…and we’re all playing that game in one way or another.
