CoolDMZ makes headlines again… If any readers were participants in last night’s Streets of London Sunday night pub trivia contest, I hope you enjoyed getting schooled in ridiculous fashion by CoolDMZ and his siblings and parents, hereinafter the “CoolDMZ Good-time Family Trivia Band.” Our group–my parents, my brother and sister and her fiancee, with the collective power of our above average IQs and specialized tools like my brother with the rock trivia knowledge and my mom with the… remembering of stuff that happened before 2003 (Haille Selassie!!!) got 25 out of 30 and the tiebreaker, taking the house for all it was worth, which was 2 British-themed dinners to be consumed at a later date.
I have to be honest–my own contributions to our brain crunching did not go very well. I failed to correctly identify the title of that Eurythmics song that I and probably 80% of the population thinks is called “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)” and I staked my considerable integrity behind “the Phillipines” as the location of this horrific tragedy that had occured yesterday (nice one, trivia master). However, I did pause before turning in our answers to convince the group to think hard about our tiebreaker answer, which ended up getting us the W (we were off by 100 seats on the capacity of the A-380, the largest passenger jet liner). My wife pointed out that one of my annoying habits, namely of pointing out (annoyingly) when one song sounds like another song by singing the lyrics to the other song over the tune to the first song (an analog mashup?) probably handicapped me on the Eurythmics question. Oh well. Suck on it, Sacramento!!

So, if you win, do you HAVE to eat the food from Streets of London? Shudder…

well, when i thought a Scotch Egg was just a deep fried egg, and that it was funny when that fat dude was eating one on The Office, i thought i could probably eat one. turns out, it’s an egg WRAPPED IN SAUSAGE and then deep fried. shudder shudder.
you guys plan it and we’ll do this. I really recommend a team of 6.
DrinkTank is a known threat? they ate our frickin dust.

Congrats to the Z clan — nice work! Who’s up for a SacRag team to make regular appearances at pub quiz night? Sac-eats and I are frequent pub quizzers (placing in the top three with just the two of us on many occasions, I might add), and it would be great to get a team going — not necessarily every week, but enough to become known as a threat to DrinkTank and other strong teams.

DrinkTank used to be consistently strong, but I think it depends on which team members show up. Their fields of knowledge seem to be very specific to certain members of their team. This coming Sunday is Easter, so we’ll have to find out if they’re still having it. And Stickie, I agree that winning two entrees isn’t exactly a prize. Their salads aren’t bad, and if you eyeball the food coming out of the kitchen, you can see if they’ve changed their frying oil recently, so the fried stuff (excluding the Scotch egg) is passable. I always have Zantac or Tums with me, however, just in case.
