Food Rumors

Here’s a few things I’ve heard in the past week regarding the local food scene:

1) Most of you may have already heard this, but for those of you that haven’t: Ernesto’s, currently at S and 16th, will be moving to the space currently occupied by Andiamo on 33rd and Folsom. No news as to what will become of the 16th and S site. Andiamo will be closing and not relocating, so get while the getting’s good.

2) Hukilau will be closing its doors and the owners will be changing the space to an informal Italian themed restaurant (think Paesano’s Jr.) that will cater heavily to the Capitol area lunch crowd by offering plenty of gran ‘n go options.

3) The band “Daisy Spot” was recently seen shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die.

4) The Albertson’s supermarket located on the corner of Fair Oaks and Munroe in the Loehman’s shopping center still has the longest and slowest moving check out lines in town. Just in case you were wondering.

  2. Squeeze the ice cream at “Big Al’s” and you’ll be shocked. It’s been in liquid form for about a year now. I told the manager about six months ago and she blew me off as it being a ‘minor inconvenience.’

  3. TGI Friday’s in Roseville has theeeeeeeee worst service. I keep going back thinking that I caught them on a bad night and I keep kicking myself in the ass for thinking it’s really worth the risk every time I do it.

  4. FYI: Even if they had good service, there are no good reasons to go to Friday’s. I think the risk that you may eat horrible food that’s high in all things bad for you and low in taste would be risk enough not to venture back. Add to that the 1-2 hr wait and I’ll take Chili’s anytime. I’m not a huge fan of Chili’s, mind you, I just think it’s better than Friday’s.

  5. I find it hard to think of a single chain restaurant that I can recommend. Il Fornio, I suppose.

Eat locally. We have enough good restaurants in town that there is no excuse not to.
