Did you all read the front page Bee story today on the McClatchy High freshman, Julia Wilson, who was questioned by the secret service without her parents present because she wrote “Kill Bush” on her MySpace page?
Sure, that sounds outrageous, but apparently state law does not require parental notification when law enforcement officials want to question a student during school hours. And actually, the mother was notified when the agents knocked on her door, but she “asked the agents to come back in an hour,” apparently mistaking Federal agents with the Fuller Brush Man.
Beneath the words “Kill Bush,” Julia posted a cartoonish photo-collage of a knife stabbing the hand of the president. It was one of a few images Julia said she used to decorate an anti-Bush Web page she moderated on MySpace, the social networking Web site that is hugely popular among teenagers.
It sounds like the girl was cleared though, because after all she admits what she did was wrong and is adamant that she has not a violent bone in her body.
“I told them I just really don’t agree with Bush’s politics,” Julia said Thursday. “I don’t have any plans of harming Bush in any way. I’m very peaceful; I just don’t like Bush.”
See? She doesn’t have any plans, and she’s clearly peaceful because she says she is. Some of the most peaceful people I know have Websites commanding murder accompanied by cartoons depicting same.
The group that got her in trouble was called something like “People who want to stab Bush” — Julia said she doesn’t remember the exact name because she soon changed it.
I mean, she started the group 1 whole years ago, when she was in 8th grade. I’m sure it was named something like “stab”…pierce maybe? Wound? Something peaceful like that.
But I kid the kid. Clearly she was not attempting to incite the violent act she…displayed prominently in word and cartoon. She knows she crossed the line, and hopefully everything will be back to normal for the Wilsons. Any words of wisdom for the authorities, dad?
“I don’t condone what she did, but it seems a little over the top to me,” said Julia’s father, Jim Moose. “You’d think they could look at the situation and determine that she’s not a credible threat.”
Yes, maybe they could have looked at her MySpace profile, and determined by looking at her appearance and age and gender that she didn’t fit the profile of someone who would pose a threat. Sounds very enlightenened. We’ve all seen “24” season 2, we know the score.
Stay safe, Sacramento. I’d ask you all what you think but I’m sure that after 5 comments we’d be trading spoilers for Season 6. Will Jack make it back to L.A.? Will Bill still be butting heads with his superiors? What is up Chloe’s butt this time?
Does anyone remember that episode of The State where they did a sketch about a teacher who was discussing how it’s illegal to even discuss anything related to harming the President? And everytime he’d bring it up, FBI suits would jump up from out of nowhere and tackle him? This post reminds me of that show.
Man, I miss that show.

You can now download “The State” on iTunes, the hole first season, I believe. I love that show, too.
However, any and all threats to our leader (no matter who he happens to be or what party to which he is affiliated) should be investigated (even if the threats are made by a pimply faced teen with braces).
