Sac City Unified background check fails students

Disciplinary action has been taken against Vernon Proctor, an assistant principal in charge of discipline at Hiram Johnson High School, after he was arrested Friday on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics, according to the Sac Bee. This story goes beyond the irony of the disciplinarian being disciplined. Sure, you say, if he has a drug problem he should not be in the classroom.

Proctor — who had taken Friday off from work — was placed on paid administrative [leave] (sic) when he arrived on campus Monday morning

A slap on the wrist. Well, I suppose if it was just one incident, I can understand giving him the benefit of the doubt. He has worked for Sac City Unified for a number of years, teaching at Burbank and New Technology High before taking this administrative job with Johnson. I’m sure he is historically the kind of man who deserves to be in a position of authority with our kids and this is just a fall from grace…

As is the case with all district employees, Lopez said, Proctor underwent a criminal check before being hired.

According to court documents, Proctor was arrested in 1998 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He eventually pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge, the records show, and was sentenced to three years of probation.

My heart goes out to the Johnson students and their parents, who probably learned this the way Sac City Unified apparently learned it too, by reading it in the paper after the man was arrested — again. This person with a history of violent crime was in a position to discipline their children. I’m horrified. I’m sure the district is, too…

[Maria Lopez, spokeswoman for Sac City] said she was not sure whether that arrest was discovered or discussed in the hiring process.

About Proctor’s more recent arrest, “we have very serious concerns,” she said.

Okay, now my mind is blown. Now you have concerns! What is the good option there? That Sac City was unaware or that they knew and did nothing? That ought to cool this situation right down. I’m sure the faith of the parents are restored.

We drove past Johnson on the way to work this morning and saw camera crews. A lot of people have a lot of explaining to do…

  1. The best part is that he is on ‘paid administrative leave’ pending an investigation. So unfair that he gets to keep his salary and benefits when any of us would be kicked to the curb.

  2. The Bee article is worth reading. Outrageous, yes, but also entertaining. What happens at the Vagabond Inn clearly does not stay at the Vagabond Inn! Dude was there Friday with an unidentified woman whose profession I think I can guess. Unfortunately for him, the woman departed prematurely with his shoes and keys. So he had to go barefoot and high to the front desk and ask for the police. Wow. That’s dignified. How in the world is someone with a violent crime conviction, albeit misdemeanor, working at a school? His 3-year probation wasn’t even up when he got the job.

  3. I always say that they’e guilty until proven innocent… I wonder why he calls himself “proctor.” It’s probably because he likes assplay. You know what they say about people who like assplay. I can’t believe that they let a registered sex offender teach our innocent children… At least it was only Hiram Johnson, not one of the good schools.

  4. But he is bringing so much “diversity” of cultures, values, and life experience into the schools. And we all want diversity, right? Who better to teach students’ young empty minds about things like “how to select a crack ho'” and “where to go after the selection is made”?

So you can see why Sac Unified might be willing to overlook the minor legal problems for the sake of diversity.

And don’t be so quick to judge a man ’till you have walked a mile in his shoes… well- in this case, walked a mile while barefoot, stoned, and horny. I see I have my weekend set. Does anyone know if the Vagabond Inn has a hottub?

  5. What’s important at public high schools are pep rallies, football games and the prom. (I attended a suburban public high school). Public schools are just a babysitting service. It doesn’t make a difference if the principal takes drugs or not.

  6. I have to chime in. I’m so glad you all found the prior arrest for AWDW….but, you must have missed the DUI at .19% BAL.

Come on, there is NO excuse for this PIMP to be working with OUR KIDS!

Fire his butt! Now my tax dollars pay while a defunct school district decides what to do?

And HE’s the one on crack?
