This past Sunday Mrs. Eats and I were lucky enough to attend the second annual Sacramento food bloggers potluck. ‘Twas a rousing event filled with tasty vittles and plenty of food-geek conversations. I won’t give you the litany of flavor delights that were available to the attendees, for it would only make you jealous.
What you might find interesting, however, is a list of the local cooks/writers who attended, and the gastronomical riches available on their respective blogs.
First of all, the two organizers of the event: Garrett and Elise
Garrett is the writer of Vanilla Garlic, a blog focused on eating, cooking, observations, and especially cupcakes. Garrett’s style is wonderfully comical, and his baking skills are an impressive match for his culinary creativity (coco and pink peppercorn cupcakes anyone?).
Elise Bauer is the writer of Simply Recipes, one of the most read food blogs in the country. Her site has been featured in the Washinton Post, Time magazine, and countless other media mammoths. Her elegant story telling and spot-on recipes (I’ve made several) make her site a welcome antidote to the commercial aloofness of other recipe sites. On top of all that, she’s one heckuva nice person.
Here are the rest of the local bloggers and their particular slant in the blog-vironment.
Cakegrrl’s Cakery– mostly low-fat recipes and few indulgences as well.
Chucrute com Salsicha– Fluent in Portuguese? Then this site is for you.
Everything on a Waffle– Great comfort recipes and girl power.
Hunter Angler Gardener Cook– Most of us don’t have the time (or the stomach) to kill or cultivate everything we eat. Hank does. Hank is awesome. Everyone needs a Hank in their life.
Just the 2 of Us– Recipes, restaurant info, and cat pictures. What more do you need?
Munchie Musings– Catherine is a fantastic cook, a curious soul, and a great blogger. Her recipes are typically off the beaten path owing to her multi-ethnic, multi-national upbringing. Multi-national=yummy.
Rookie Cookery– Andrea is an amazing cook, and a wonderful mother, and manages to take care of a household with a variety of tastes, ranging from vegan to full carnivore. It’s pretty impressive.
Sacatomato– One of the most respected writers/chefs/all-around-awesome-person, Ann Martin Rolke tells it like it is.
Sac Foodies– The women of PR firm Fleishman-Hillard, provide insight on the local dining scene.
So, as you can see, there is no lack of food information in the Sacramento region. All it takes is a few clicks of the mouse to find out where to eat, what to eat, and how to eat. (Ok, if you really need information on how to eat, then you probably have bigger problems than the blog-hive can fix.)
Bon appetit.
Thanks for the kind words, Greg.

Love your impression of my blog, cracked me up. Good seeing you again. I told Mrs. Sac-eats at the next potluck I’d make her the coconut cake she likes.
