Reef hangs’em up

In case you weren’t feeling old enough, Shareef Abdur-Rahim announced his retirement on Monday after 12 seasons in the NBA. Did you read that? Twelve seasons. Man, I think I lost a decade in there somewhere. When did 1996 become 12 years ago?

At any rate, it appears he’ll land a job with the Kings in some capacity. Good luck, Shareef.

  1. I remember when he was a star rookie when he broke into the league with the Grizzlies. He was a decent player who deserved better than he got, but best of luck to him.

  2. Bee writer Sam Amick corrected that “1996” mistake on his blog page. http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sports/kings/ Good catch though. I’m a big Kings fan and I missed that one. :1

Too bad Shareef never was able to contribute that much to the Kings. He’s one of the genuine good-guys in pro sports, doing a good deal of off-court charity work and showing genuine compassion and interest in the people around him. Looks like there’s a chance he’ll become a coach with the Kings, working with the frontline players (and they could really use someone like that.)
