One of my favorite kids’ comedies was Midnight Madness, which featured an all night scavenger hunt through Los Angeles. Riding the coattails of Animal House, Disney released a safe-and-sane college comedy that got its street-cred for casting Stephen Furst, featured the great Eddie Deezen (king of all nerd actors) and introduced the world to an young Canadian named Michael Fox. Wackiness ensued.
Now, it is finally my turn. Thanks to the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen and MidtownGrid, I can live out this childhood fantasy in a wacky urban scavenger hunt. On May 9th, you can, too, if you come to the first annual Hunt the Grid. Zip around Midtown on your bike for glory and prizes with an after-party sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company.
Hunt at 4:00, but get there early!
Party and awards at 6:00!
Registration for teams of two, three, or four riders is $10, and the top five teams will be presented with radical prizes during the party. “Radical prizes” is a direct quote from the organizers, whom I completely trust to not betray the spirit of the adjective “radical”. Come watch and party, even if you don’t compete.
I also hope to experience teams in color coordinated sweatshirts and repeated use of the word “fagabeefe”.
And why are they having such a great event in May? Because May is
bike month! Great Sacramento campaign to encourage biking in the region. Mayisbikemonth.com
