Maybe it is a love story?
Starting Saturday, the venerable B Street Theatre will be producing “Go, Dog. Go!”, based on the kids’ book by PD Eastman. This is a favorite book at our house, but I’m not sure how it translates to the stage.
The book is not without tension; there is a central question of just where it is these dogs are going which is dramatically resolved in the final act as being a giant dog party atop a tree. Perhaps this is presented as an allegory of our nation in these troubled times? Or perhaps the focus is on the love story between the one dog who asks the other dog several times if he likes her hat. He gives her the “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a darn” treatment over and over, but she goes all Scarlet O’Hara and vows to never go hungry again until she makes sufficient modifications to the hat to win his approval. Or maybe the text is used word for word, and played in a absurdist Samuel Beckett style. “Waiting for Dog Go” perhaps?
Tickets are $15 for kids and $22 for adults. Wait, what!!?

Sounds like a butt sniffin’ good time. Especially at $22 per adult.

I took my grandkids and my DIL to see this when I was in Portland…at Northwest Childrens Theatre. Elaina was only 2 but she LOVED it. Great Production..very cleaverly done.

My dyslexic friend thought that this was a play about Homer Simpson’s analysis of Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

We took the kids (11 and 13) and had a good time. As an adult, you need to appreciate the facial expressions and hidden jokes. The kids (especially the younger kids) really seemed to like it. The venue is small enough that everyone has a great seat.
