Agent Ribbons is ready for a primetime bout
KXLU, the FM station of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, is known worldwide as one of the gold standards of college radio. Their diverse programming and dedication to cutting edge music has resulted in thousands of bands over the years lining up at their doors, clamoring for access to the playlist. Demolisten, which has aired weekly since 1984, is one of the primary gatekeepers of the KXLU airwaves. DJs Fred and Octavius have the difficult job of performing triage on the music of the day and deciding which acts need immediate attention.
I hear our readers thinking, “Gee, I wonder if I have heard of any bands that broke to the big time because of being featured on Demolisten??” Let’s just name a few: The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns & Roses, and Beck. During the early days before they had careers, Kurt Cobain wore KXLU gear in photo shoots, Dave Lovering (of the Pixies) hoped that his band was good enough to get on the air, and Perry Farrell (of Jane’s Addiction) would listen to the station all day long.
So, yeah, this is a big deal that could mean something amazing for Natalie, Lauren and Naomi. Let’s wish them luck and tune in tonight at 6pm.
Update: The show runs from 6-8pm. Agent Ribbons is scheduled to appear at approximately 7pm.
Update2: You can watch the studio webcam at http://kxludemolisten.blogspot.com/ or stickam.

I’m not sure if it ws the “demolisten” show, but I got a chance to play an afternoon show on KXLU back in 1998 and it was great fun, although it didn’t do much for record sales. I suppose they would have been better had we released an album by then.

Wburg, do you remember who the DJs were? Back then, I am guessing it was Chad, Tony and Fred who were doing Demolisten, but I don’t think they ever did the show in the afternoon.
