I’m sure you do. If you don’t remember, pay attention: You heard it here first.
RonTopofIt has been keeping us all up to date on this missing woman, and commented on the fact that there seems to be disparities in the attention that some missing persons get over others.
Two whole weeks later, KCRA finally picked up on the disparity issue. Too late though KCRA, you’ve been scooped by almighty Rag of Sac. What exactly are you doing during work?
So what does this story have to say about how KCRA reports the news?
1. KCRA reports the news based on what the cops tell them to say.
2. They love them some labels.
3. They aren’t good at making excuses.
4. They read the Sac Rag, and are totally intimidated by the hardhitting, in depth analysis that the Sac Rag team provides.
This doesn’t imply good things for any news organization, even by Sacramento standards. Can’t blame them for number 4, though.

I thought I was the only one that cringed when KCRA ran that story last night. Your take on it is brilliant!

Sheesh- First people are upset about an alleged disparity regarding over-coverage of crimes committed BY minorities, and now people are upset about under-coverage of crimes committed UPON minorities.
You realy think the press (TV included) is a bunch of racists who sit around the desk talking stories and saying, “Oh- that’s just another missing black girl. Use the missing white girl story instead. You can’t swing a dead cat these days without hitting a black weatherperson, an Asian field reporter, a Hispanic (I know- not technically a race, but it’s the most practical PC term) opinion piece writer/commentator. Why, right here in Sacramento we have a black traffic reporter on TV telling us every morning about traffic back-ups that were cleared 30 minutes ago. To be honest, I’d rather look at her than the poor white girl they had who was always looking through the TV at something behind me over my shoulder. But the fact remains that it really seems like the press is pretty equal opportunity about its reporting. Maybe if all the yutzes who were glued to the Laci Peterson murder trial (you do know she was 1/2 hispanic, right?) picked a different trial to pay attention to, NBC would broadcast the real-time verdict at the Lawnquisha Kwanzaa murder trial too.

Squirty, they gotta sell advertising. That’s how the game works. Some missing people are ‘just more interesting’ than others. That’s the way it goes. But I do know of the traffic reporter you speak and a lazy eye does not belong on tv.

Statistically speaking most crimes are committed by persons of the victims same race. Again statistically speaking you cant report a crime against a black without implicating a black perp. You cant report a crime against a white without a white perp. So if you are going to report on fewer black perps you have to report on fewer black victims. You cant have it both ways.

squirty: are you for fucking real? did you just segue from a comparative study of news coverage to a claim that the local black traffic reporter is lacking in traffic reporting skills? seriously, you’re bumming me out. block out all the voices in your head except the one telling me whether the Astros turn it around, so i can place some bets. CoolDMZ needs a new pair of shoes.
