Go Manteca, it’s ya birthday

News10.net reports of a stolen car in Manteca. Big deal, right? Ok, so the car was a rare Ford GT that retails for $160,000. Still, it happens, no big. Read on…

That wasn’t all. Waterford said that in order to start the GT, the thieves found the battery charger and jumped it. They pushed a Mustang belonging to rapper 50 Cent out of the way and from the damage that was caused, probably fished-tailed the GT out the showroom’s double doors.

Hey, Manteca, rapper 50 Cent parks his Mustang on a showroom floor in your town, get that news to the chamber of commerce! Give those waterslides a run for their money. And while you’re at it, your town has sold 5 of the only 500 GT’s made each year. That’s….one second, 500 divided by 5, oh wait, 5 divided by 500, no 5 times 500…a decent amount of fancy cars sold in an otherwise small town. Well done.

  1. When I wrote that I sort of remembered hearing that they closed at some point. But it was more a nod to my youth coming from a small town in the foothills and how much a trip to the waterslides meant to us…it was bigger than Vintage Fair Mall in Modesto believe you me!

  2. Did you know that the Manteca Waterslides closed in ’04 to make the way for new development? Pretty much everything from Oakwood Lake Resort (as it was known) was auctioned off, including one of its biggest waterslides to Great America.

At least the Manteca Chamber of Commerce doesn’t promote the meaning of its fine city’s name: “Manteca: We’re Spanish for ‘Lard’!”

  3. Oh, no need to tell me what a big deal it was! Our church youth group made the trip all the way from Auburn to Manteca when I was in junior high. This was years before Waterworld at Cal Expo, and it was well worth the long trip and spending my hard-earned paper route money!

  4. first off, what the hell is 50 cent doing in manteca. second, who the hell has a business where you have 160,000 dollar cars without an alarm in the building. third, why was there no alarm on the car? i’ve seen 87 civics with two different sets of rims, a different colored hood, and trunk being held on with a bungy cord, and they have an alarm.
