Countdown to April 15th

As sure as the sun rises, you always know it’s tax time as you drive through the Fulton and Hurley intersection. It seems to be a brother-sister pair who are forced to don the Lady Liberty costume and take turns drumming up customers for their parents’ tax business, but both seem to have an easy-going demeanor (even acquiescing to my request for a photo — even though the light turned green just as I was about to take the picture.) I can only imagine what the costume would be for the Kabob House next door.

  1. Wow, last year I encountered about 20 of these guys in a Rancho intersection on Folsom Blvd.. Same company. I took a few photos of the event.

The group I ran into had “Liberty Gumbys” and Uncle Sams. They were out in the median next to each turn lane soliciting, as well as on each corner. It was pretty chaotic. Police had to come down and set some limits.

  2. Actually, not really. I was having issues with the photo posting process & forgot to complete my thoughts before it posted initially. Minor correction too: It’s FAMOUS KABOB at Fulton & Hurley. Kabob House is down the street at Fulton & Arden (just south of the VIP Spa that seems to be open 24 hours a day, and I doubt they’re giving manicures in there.)

  3. There is a small bit in the Metro section of today’s Bee about Yuba City’s efforts to ban all commercial signs that are worn or waved by people. The article specifically mentions Liberty Tax Service and their lady liberty costumes. Too bad the Bee sucks and I can’t seem to find it in their online version to link to it. Go figure.

  4. Can you imagine Yuba City Council is trying to ban these people from earning a living? What next you can’t wear designer clothing with their logo on it because you are advertising for them?
Yuba City Council is way out there. They should focus on getting rid of the homeless people holding a sign if they can stand and hold a sign maybe they can work for Liberty Tax people.
