Valentime’s Day

One of my resolutions for ’06 was to be kinder and gentler when pointing out others’ grammatical, spelling, and pronunciation gaffes, but has anyone else heard the radio spot for a local business marketing their goods for “Valentime’s” Day?

It’s for a business that is apparently trying to compete with Shari’s Berries. Keep your ears out for it, and you too will wonder in amazement how someone could invest so heavily in radio advertising and not even get the name of the holiday correct. Next time I hear it, I’m sure I’ll hear the non-word “supposably” in there, too.

  1. Google “Valentime’s Day” with & without an apostrophe if you want to be further depressed! Sure, some of them are probably people saying “It’s ValentiNe’s Day, not ValentiMe’s Day” on messageboards & blogs but still, it’s a lot of hits. That’s always been a pet-peeve of mine. It’s right up there with “all intensive purposes”.

  2. M-W all the way. But I’ll wager it’s in the OED too, I only have the 2 volume one at home but I’ll check.
