When Hubby and I finished up our grubbin’ lunch at the Folsom branch of La Fiesta on Sunday, we noticed a business in the same strip mall that was called “Tea and Sympathy.” Wait..what? SYMPATHY? Did I read that correctly?
“Yes, I’d like an iced Mighty Leaf Green Tea Tropical, and my diabetic hamster who needs insulin shots just ran away.”
“That will be $3.40, and I’m sorry.”
As a food co-op, Whole Foods, and East-West Books customer, I thought I was at least remotely familiar with what’s new in new age, especially since I’m somehow on all kinds of hippie-esque mailing lists as a result of my patronage to these stores (whose goods I load into my SUV.)
Do the Tea & Sympathy customers not have friends with whom to share their woes? In my circle, tea is not the drink of choice when having a rough day (ours are Gu2O, Gatorade, or Cytomax.)
I’m interested to know what the premise of this establishment is and if any of you have been there.
By the way, I was much more pleased with my Folsom La Fiesta experience than my midtown lunch from back in June — it is indeed worthy of all the praise.
P.S. A quick Google search showed that the “tea and sympathy” nomenclature is in the British vernacular, and it is also the title of a play and a movie. Although we’ve been to London, I’m apparently not enough of an Anglophile to know such things. Hopefully C.M. Goethe would not categorize me as “socially unfit.”
