Regional Transit: The Soundtrack

If you’re like me, you enjoy musical accompaniment on your RT commute. Be it the popular Apple iPod device, a Walkman, or the songs in your head, there are certain tunes that really fit the bill for your particular route and time of day. For example, on a rainyish day like today, crossing the river on I5 heading into Natomas, Sufjan Stevens was where it was at. After work, heading uptown on the 50E I’m thinking maybe something a little more rockin.

Well, I want to hear from you. Leave a comment with your route and some songs that make it rock (or make it roll) for you. Perhaps we could get a mix CD going…so feel free to also donate several thousand dollars for permissions if you’d like to see that happen!

  1. What a great idea! I’m sorry – I have nothing to contribute. I can’t listen to my ipod on the bus because I’m sure to lose it if I remove it from my purse, and I’m too clumsy to keep it in my purse with only the headphones coming out. What a nerd. Oh well, it leaves me free to listen to all the delightful conversations and occasionally be hit on by an old man. Like the one who recently told me “You have beautiful teeth!” Now why would I want to block that out? Thank you Fluoride!!

  2. Sufjan is a great choice. If I rode the bus, I’d be in the mood for a little Maria Taylor on a rainy day. Then maybe a little Ted Leo/ “Shake the Sheets” for the ride back. Bring me down, bring me back up!

  3. Mrs Cool and I looked at your blogger profile and would like to know who gave you access to our musical tastes. Was it the NSA?

Shake the Sheets is totally on my uptown/downtown rotation…especially “Me and Mia”

  4. One of my first signals that I was becoming sort of middle-aged and completely uncool was listening to Me & Mia while on an eliptical trainer. It just seems wrong. It’s so much hipper to listen to it on the city bus! However, as above, not an option for me personally.

  5. You guys would probably stop riding RT if you knew what I listen to in my head (since we can’t wear headphones for obvious reasons) while driving you guys around. It’s not that bad, but everything is open to interpretation.

  6. I love thinking of rainy day albums…I could list a bunch! I definitely have some go-to albums though:
Stars – Set Yourself on Fire
    Stellastarr’s self titled album
Frou Frou – Details (Ok this is like when the rain stops and the sun is kind of creeping back out)

There’s nothing particularly rainy about any of them…maybe I just heard them on rainy days. Who knows? For what it’s worth, they’re lovely though.

Speaking of lovely albums, anyone ever read the sassy reveiws on pitchforkmedia.com? I always find them an interesting comparison to my own opinions…just a thought.
