A few weeks ago sac-eats wrote a post “encouraging” folks that read this here web log to vote for it as “Best Local Blog” and/or “Best Local Website”. Local blogger FFT commented that this effort to garner votes was “shameless”. Well, via FFT, we learn that there is “a major upset brewing” for Best Blog. Jeff, over at Eyes for the Brambles, picked up on this post as well.
I can’t guess the upset. Sacrag and hecksac won last year. Have people grown tired of snark and food and rock show reviews?
Well, Sacramento, what local blogs do you think have a chance at taking home the top spot this year? What makes a good local blog? Random comments about comments? Hard hitting local media watchdogging? Food reviews? Your random comments are welcome…
I still can’t believe how not hot it’s been this year!

Of course, you can always vote for Hewn & Hammered as best local blog too, but I guess only about 10% of our content is really “local.”
I like this one and Ann Rolke’s food blog the best as far as local blogs go.

I hear River Chat (rcats.wordpress.com) is pretty rad …
Honestly, I was just busting your chops when I wrote “shameless.”
But now that you follow up that post with this back-door self promotion, I have to question the ‘Rag’s integrity …
🙂
Actually, I’m really interested to see who will win best coffee: Temple or Old Soul. I prefer Temple.

Uh, you’re welcome, FFT?
And remind me how this was back-door self promoting? I was asking folks to comment on what they look for when shopping for a local blog.

“Local” is the key word here. I read lots of great blogs, and they happen to be written by locals, but ya can’t tell by reading them.
When I see a blog that describes itself as a local Sacramento blog..I want it to be about this area…or mostly. That’s the one I would want to vote for.
That narrows the field. Then I have to decide between politics, food, wit, a certain amount of snarkiness when it is called for (as it is sometimes), good writing, and “let’s not take ourselves too seriously” is high on my list. (It is my new personal mantra). That is why I voted for Sac Rag. It has it all..IMO.
When I want to be humbled and in awe of someone’s writing skills, I go to Hahn at Home.com. Her recent post on raising kids was incredible, as are many of hers. The woman can write!
When I want to read a blog about restaurant reviews and learn about local food events, I go to Sacatomato, Sacramento Food Blog, or Vanilla Garlic..and Cakegrrl blogs about lots of local events as well. All well written..and VG is hilarious! Just the 2 of Us is a new food-like blog that I enjoy reading. I like the way Eileen writes.
I am just ‘pleased as a peach’ that Sac has so many blogs to choose from.
Good Luck!

Melly: That right there is the sort of comment that makes me glad that I went into this business. That and the 401K, of course.
Well done. You read a post, you understood a post, you thought about a response to a post, and you commented on a post.
