KSAC has Found Jesus

According to the Democratic Underground and the SNR Blog, local progressive talk radio station KSAC 1240 is changing formats on Monday. Gone will be the left leaning talk radio hosts to whom apparently no one listens, and taking its place will be a whole station dedicated to gospel music. That’s right, we’re going to get some good old time religion on the AM dial.

Since the changeover is going to happen on March 31st, we assume that this isn’t an April Fool’s gaffe. Also, in in the irony column, March 31st will be observed as Cesar Chavez day. No better way to pay tribute to a noted labor leader than to dump the progressive station in favor of heavenly tunes.

The reason for the switch? Apparently KSAC was losing money and having difficulty finding advertisers. I’m not sure if this says something about the viability of liberal talk radio, or if it says something about the intelligence of liberal listeners in regard to their lack of interest in the crap that is normally hawked on talk radio (e.g. male enhancement, gold coins, balding remedies, and vegas timeshares pimped by that crazy broad from “That ’70s Show”). I’ll let you, the people, decide.

  2. KSAC 1240? Is that the station that had Christine Craft as a talk show host? I thought it had different call letters. I listened to her show a few times, then I lost interest in it. Christine Craft talked about gardening and about how getting dirt from the ground into your fingernails was good for your skin. She said something about beneficial bacteria, or something like that.

    There was a radio station that I think Al Franken owned. A talk show host, (Edith Goldstein?), would push democratic candidates by calling the republican candidates names. (doodoo Doolittle)

  4. Lynn: KCTC was Sacramento’s Air America station (the station owned by Al Franken). KCTC and KSAC are not the same station.

    Christine Craft did air on KSAC, but was replaced with another show in her timeslot sometime back in October.

    Talk Radio KSAC 1420 AM. I had my radio dial always turned to KSAC and listened to it throughout the day and evening. KSAC used to provide everyone with the TRUTH regarding politics and the evil all~destructive republican agenda. KSAC was the only Progressive Talk Radio station in Sacramento. Why are the stupid right~wing republicans with their corrupt and destructive agendas, possessing all of Talk Radio? And Gospel?
    This is Insane! How will people hear truth about wonderful Barack Obama. {Most of us cannot carry our computer everywhere.} Many of us still like a radio that is not attached to a computer. The only other radio station I sometimes listen to is after 10 PM… it is the great unconventional and paranormal ‘CoastToCoastAM’ 1530 AM … Art Bell used to be the nightly Host… now he does weekends mostly… George Noory is Hosting nightly ~ I now like George better than Art Bell. ~::~

  9. KGO is left-leaning. It’s 810 on the dial. It has had a talk format for a long time: about twenty-five or thirty years. I listen to it on a radio: the signal comes in clearly. Christine Craft is a fill-in host on the station. I think she’s going to be on this week, at 10 in the evening.

    A shame indeed! The embarrassingly stupid right~wing republicans manage to take over all the radio bands and tv, media … and newspapers etc. And they get advertisers. A wonderful new era of possibilities is upon us if Barack Obama becomes President! Many people are now shedding the right~wing garbage. This is the time when getting plenty of new advertisers for KSAC Progressive Talk Radio should have been easy! Maybe KSAC did not put in the effort needed to contact advertisers who would be more that happy to sponsor them. KSAC needed to L@@K in the right places for the right sponsors! All other talk radio stations here are right~wing and spouting their violent and toxic dangerous corrupt brain~washing… perfect for dummy zombies and world destruction.

    Why can we not sustain even *one* Progressive talk
    radio station here in Sacramento. There *are* green activists and progressives even here! I was grateful that we had ‘Air America’ broadcasting on KSAC 1240 AM radio. Tis such a pity it is gone.

  35. The Sacramento Bee and the San Francisco Chronicle are left-leaning.

    All of the local TV stations are left-leaning. (Chris Burrous is the exception: he wants a mayor who will “crack-down” on the homeless). I think most people are influenced by what they see and hear on TV. Are there that many people who listen to talk radio?

    Also, all illegal drugs should be made legal. (I don’t take any drugs: illegal or legal). Instead of trying to protect drug addicts from themselves, police should spend their time protecting those people who want, and need, protection from others.

  38. Kelly What’s-her-name, the owner of the station formerly known as KSAC, blames Sacramento Democrats for not supporting her station and finds Gospel a relief, as though a great weight was lifted off her shoulders.

    The problem is the station owner, not the format. If you have a product it needs to be SOLD, you can’t sit back and hope for buyers. She didn’t sell the product, plain and simple. Any aggressive, go-getting marketer/salesperson could have gotten FAT selling ad-space on KSAC.

  47. The reason KSAC is gone is simple. Large corporations use large advertising corporations to buy advertising for them. These ad agencies don’t buy ad time on progressive stations due to the fact that they tend to expose the corruption of the large corporations. The ratings at KSAC were actually good, but they got squeezed by the mega media conglomerates. Maybe progressive talk needs to go non-profit like NPR?

  49. All of the local TV stations had left-leaning news about the effect of the budget cuts on public schools. There was one mother at a school board meeting who said that her child was frightened at the thought of being in a class with thirty-five students. That’s fear-mongering. That was on Fox TV. Then there was video of first graders demonstrating for more money for public schools with signs that said “prop 98.” I think that was shown on channel 13. Why would corporations care about those types of news stories?

    The Bee’s stories are always pro-illegal immigration. Corporations are pro-illegal immigration because of the money they save from hiring cheap labor. The cost of educating illegles and paying for illegal’s health care is a huge financial burden on the state, but the Bee never has those types of articles.
