The Bee reports today that the property that has housed Corti Brothers since 1970 will be leased to another tenant. CB has occupied the location since 1988 without a lease, so I suppose it is no surprise that the landlords opted to strike a deal that more than doubles the rent on the 20,000 square foot location from $12,000 to $24,000 a month. The new business will be Good Eats, a gourmet market and bistro. According to Mike Dunn at the Bee, CB will close the current location by October 15.
With their top quality selection of…. jeeze, just about anything you could want to eat or drink, I am a huge fan of CB. Since 1947, they have been on the short list of Sacramento’s best, and I hope that this continues long into the 21st Century. Let’s support Corti Brothers for as long as we can to help make that transition to a new store as quick as possible.
Might I suggest that they move to the former Tower sites at Watt & El Camino? Heck, they could take over that entire strip, save for Plaza Hof Brau.

I think Teel struck some type of insider deal with the owners of the building and the whole thing is unfortunate. We so do not need another ‘sort of owned by Rayles’ gourmet market and bistro in our neighborhood!

Maybe the former site of the Italian Mercado down the street? Yes, it is next door to Trader Joe’s, but I would think that a high end place like CB would be fine next to a discount market like Trader Joe’s. The difference in quality between the two establishments is pretty damn clear. Plus, it would allow them to stay in the same neighborhood that has Italian roots going back more than a century.

The Italian Mercado would be perfect except for the parking. But hey, we’re all using the empty Longs lot to go to TJs anyway, right?

I just don’t get how you can exist for that long going month-to-month. Italian Mercado is a sweet idea but they’d need that whole building.
Oh, and add “parking at East Sac TJs” to the list of long-overdue post topics…

Well if someone can overtake Cortis I’m sure they could take over the beauty supply store. Oh wait, Cassidys is in there too. Forget it. 🙂

Haven’t you heard? Cal Expo is now the cool place to start all kinds of businesses. Can’t wait for Corti Bros. Cal Expo. I hope they’ll have a special stop on the monorail for it.

That news story stopped me in my tracks last evening. I was so relieved that they will relocate. I’m a huge fan of theirs and hope they won’t move too far from the current location, although I know Corti fans would do anything to go wherever they end up. I’ve just been spoiled to have it near me! Their coconut shrimps are
Hey, there’s a seemingly huge empty space next to the Dollar Tree on Folsom Blvd. with plenty of parking.

If you check out their Web site (www.goodeatsgrocer.com) it says that they are planning two locations in Sacramento. One is at an undisclosed East Sacramento location (which we can assume is the current Corti Bros digs) and one in Midtown (which they call Downtown Sacramento. Jerks.) at 920 20th Street.

Where’d you get the 920 20th St address? I thought they were moving into the Andiamo location. Maybe that’s what they consider East Sac? Are they opening three stores now?
Eh, doesn’t matter, I will never shop at any of them anyhow.

sac-eats: Not sure how long you’ve been around Sacramento, but Corti Bros. used to have a store in Arden Fair. Right next to the Food Circus, both are gone now but they were pretty keen when I went there as a kid in the seventies.
Apparently 920 20th Street is their business office:

I used to live around east sac for the better part of the last two decades–I now live in North Highlands. As a contractor I travel around this area constantly. I would love to see them up in ElDorado Hills. I think the community there would love them.

Ah, that’s the business office… Thanks for the correction. Does anyone know where their proposed downtown location is?
Andiamo seems like it would be too small to house a proper grocer, but could be a bistro/deli type place to complement a grocery store/deli at the current Corti location.

Yes, in fact I do. Check out this post: https://sacrag.com/2008/08/update-on-cortis-david-berkleys-and-16th-street/
Apparently the new owner is also a longtime customer, for what that’s worth.
