Kickstart Colin Hanks’s Tower Records doc

Better days

Sacramento’s own Colin Hanks hopes to produce “All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records” and is asking for your help to do it.

From a cultural standpoint, Tower Records had a monumental impact on millions of people, worldwide. It was “the place” to escape for a few hours; a sanctuary, a haven. Tower Records was a place to meet your friends, your co-workers or a place to meet new friends who shared a common love of music, literature and all things cultural.

Yet, in 2004 the company filed for bankruptcy and by the end of 2006, Russ Solomon’s Tower Records had shut the doors to nearly every one of its worldwide outlets.

We are approaching this as a passion project, and as such are dedicated to making this film as cost effective as we can. In other words, we are trying to do this grassroots.

  1. If make a movie about the rise and fall of your lawn, and provide me a signed DVD and a “Thank You” in the film credits…. then I will gladly contribute to your lawn at the $40 level.

  2. If the PAs knew how to get a proper cup of coffee (CREAM idoits, not freakin’ milk- says so right in the contract) and not spill it all over the star of the movie, it would not have been an issue.

  3. While I think this project is a great idea, I wonder why Hanks needs to schlep around the Internet for nickles and dimes to fund it.

Even if he doesn’t want to ask his multi-millionaire producer/father to pony up the cash, Hanks must be doing just fine between a starring role in last year’s The Good Guys, his upcoming stint on Dexter and other projects. There must be better ways to generate a grassroots buzz about this film.

    But, hey, free money, right?

  4. Well you know you never really appreciate things as much when they are just given to you. Colin Hanks is trying to teach us all a valuable lesson.
