Damn, Gina! It’s Right Awn Friday! time!
As always, Sac has had an interesting week this week. From kids suing to graduate high school (um, you ever heard of studying?) to people getting stuck in hours of traffic to motivate themselves (don’t these last two items seem related?), there’ve been a few things to write about.
And let’s not forget the weather. How clearly can we see, now that the rain is gone? Sunny, warm and comfortable…exactly for what California is known, which is kind of ironic in a way.
Find out why, by strapping on your skis and making the jump…
…so who gets the coveted Right Awn! shout out this week?
But did you know, that among all states, California is sending the most athletes to the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy? With 24 members who call California home, this state is sending more people to the Olympics than Minnesota (23), Colorado (20), or even Alaska (10). Who would have thunk, given this weather?
Within the California contingent, these people are living out the “Citius, Altius, Fortius” creed from our general area:
Andy Finch; Fresno, Calif.; Snowboarding
Nate Holland; Olympic Valley, Calif.; Snowboarding
Julia Mancuso; Olympic Valley, Calif.; Skiing-Alpine
Jayson Hale; Sierraville, Calif.; Snowboarding
Travis Cabral; South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Skiing-Freestyle
Marco Sullivan; Squaw Valley, Calif.; Skiing-Alpine
Daron Rahlves; Sugar Bowl, Calif.; Skiing-Alpine
Shannon Bahrke; Tahoe City, Calif.; Skiing-Freestyle
Stacey Cook; Truckee, Calif.; Skiing-Alpine
So, fellow Raggers, with the Winter Olympics opening ceremonies today, let’s show these folks some support, and wish them well. Throw your fists in the air and give them a gold medal worthy RIGHT AWN!!
We definitely seem to be lacking representation in those “let’s find things to do while we freeze our ass off in the permafrost tundra that is our home” kind of sports like curling, biathalon, vente track speed skating and, of course, my favorite of all time, ice dancing.

Don’t give up hope! The fact that talks are still proceeding means it might still happen. Those of you who (like me) don’t have Showtime, remember that the Season DVD is a must-have anyway.

Right Yawn it is. Go California athletes, blah blah blah. I still can’t wait for the closing ceremonies so my morning news can get the shmuck out of Italy and get back to bringing me a 7:05 update on world events, followed by how to make a salad in only 45 mins. Right Awn friday should go to the trucker who nudged the gun waiving nut off 99 last week. And the victims of Sacramento’s horrific motivation-related traffic mess.

I will be painting myself blue and drenching all food items with “spicy club sauce” out of respect for the Arrested Development finale. Alas, Bluth family, we hardly knew ye.

USA wins gold!
“Chad Hedrick took the first step toward Eric Heiden’s Holy Grail of Winter Olympic records — five gold medals in 1980 — with a dominating win Saturday in the 5,000 meters, the first speedskating race of the Turin Games.”
While he’s not from Northern California, it should be noted that he now has one more gold than frequent Sac Rag commenter “Squirty Tip”

Thank you for the story on the Olympics, SinghCity. While I myself am not glued to the TV to watch Olympic figure skating (why would I when you have skating with celebrities!), I still have respect for the athletes who are representing our country.
