Happy Cesar Chavez Day!

It’s interesting that Right Awn! Friday falls on the same day as the one that commemorates Cesar Chavez. This is a person who exemplifies what Right Awn! is about – not just a shout out (usually), but a recognition of the “little guy” who tries to make a difference.

Hi SinghCity,

Here’s my candidate for Right Awn! Friday:

As the proud owner of a Kirby vacuum, I am a frequent customer of Capitol Kirby on Fulton Avenue. This is on the stretch of Fulton behind Loehmann’s Plaza, next to Ethan Allen. The staff at Capitol Kirby is always exude happiness and professionalism. These are people who genuinely take pride in what they do for a living, and they are more than helpful when I visit them for the latest accessory to pimp out my Kirby G6 (with the HEPA filter and shampooer upgrades — yeah baby!).

Dismayed at the prospect of their having to move with the upscale Pavilions condo project going in adjacent to their location, I asked the uber-friendly Kirby man what they were going to do. He proudly exclaimed, “We’re not going anywhere. We OWN this land.” Right AWN! I asked if he thought maybe they’d get more business with the new homes, he replied, “The kind of people who can afford those places don’t do their own vacuuming.”

So, while the wealthy empty nesters and stay-at-home-non-moms make their way to their conveniently located stucco and granite pods, they’ll likely turn their nose up at the outwardly homely Kirby building, never having a clue as to the treasures housed inside.

So there you have it, folks. The next time you’re on Fulton Avenue, why don’t you swing across and give a heartwarming RIGHT AWN! to the folks at Capital Kirby. And kudos to you RunnerGirl for the find, and for incorporating the word “pimp” in describing your vacuum.

    When you have the kind of love where cartoon birds fly around you and you find yourself sharing a plate of spaghetti like in Lady & the Tramp, you just can’t hold back the excitement. Don’t worry, it’s only ’til this coming Friday when we’ll officially be Mr. & Mrs. Eats.
