Alright, this week, I’m going to get right into it. There’s a lot of ground to cover for Right Awn! Friday. Two stories for the price of one!
This week, it’s about contrasts…
Our first awning comes from the Sports section of the Sac Bee:
Sacramento city school board member Rick Jennings didn’t know whether the guy had a gun or a knife. All Rick knew was the young man had just grabbed a woman’s purse and escaped on a bicycle. Rick chased in his car.
The story ends with the Jennings catching up to the thief and getting the purse back, while the kid took off on his bike, but not before the thief explaining that he stole the purse in the first place because he was poor and homeless…
“Maybe that was the moment that changed his life,” Rick said. “Maybe it had an impact. All we can do is hope.” …
…hope that what? That next time he steals a purse, he’ll get away?
Our second story this week is this one:
AB 2183, proposed by Assemblyman Todd Spitzer, R-Orange, would set aside $10 million for the creation of a new voluntary fitness program aimed at shaping up California’s 75,000 peace officers.
That’s right, a $10 million voluntary fitness program. At least someone sees something wrong with this:
“This is an extraordinary ripoff of taxpayers,” Jon Coupal with the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association said. “I think police officers also need a good night’s sleep, but does that mean taxpayers should be paying for their beds? I don’t think so.”
So, for Rick Jennings for sympathizing with the thief, but Jon Coupal for calling out on ridiculous legislation, here’s a solid RIGHT AWN!
