The fair citizens of Sacramento are not without their heros. God knows we certainly have our villains. But, what makes a hero special?
With raised fist, it’s those people who have the burning desire to fan the flames of justice and goodwill that we try to salute each week, here at Right Awn! Friday. And Sacramento, this week, one of our heros has returned…
Ladies and Gentleman, Smokey the Bear is back!
Smokey Bear has been returned to his post, keeping watch along Interstate 5 in Elk Grove.
A new statue was unveiled on Thursday.
Past statues have not fared well at the site.
Last year, Smokey was abducted from his post and was never found. Photos of the 6-foot fiberglass statue later showed up on the MySpace Web site. In 2004, vandals damaged Smokey.
Officials warned thieves that the new Smokey is equipped with a Global Positioning System tracking device.
That’s right, you can’t keep a good brother/bear down, no matter what. All of a sudden, just one more thing seems right in the world again. So, the next time you’re rolling down I-5 through Elk Grove, go ahead and roll your windows down, and give Smokey a solid RIGHT AWN!
I bet the person who took the Smokey statue also has a highway sign telling you how far it is to Ocean City, Maryland.
