Up & Away

Today marks the grand opening of the Aerospace Museum of California, located at the former McClellan Air Force Base.

Pictured on the left is a Douglas A-1E Skyraider.

This is totally different than the McClellan Aviation Museum you may have visited in the past.  It shows the legacy of aircraft and innovations in aerospace technology, and one of the goals of the museum is to interest children in careers in math, science, engineering, and aeronautics. In addition to a variety of aircraft, there are many hands-on learning experiences for visitors of all ages. Out back in the air park are 35 war planes.

Admission is free tomorrow for Museum Day.  To get there, take Watt past McClellan and into North Highlands.  Turn left on Freedom Park, and you’ll see the museum up on your left.

I’d like to give a special shout-out to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department who came to a man’s aid at this morning’s ribbon cutting festivities.  He passed out, and the paramedics were working on him with oxygen and the monitor on the AED (they didn’t have to use the actual AED), literally five feet from where I was standing, and they got him up and walking around in plenty of time to enjoy the museum.  The paramedics worked quietly while the opening ceremonies took place.
