There used to be a lunch time tradition in the early days of the Sac Rag. When we’d need a break from the snark and the hard hitting journalism, we would find ourselves at a loss in choosing where to go for lunch. To solve this problem, we came up with a way to spin a wheel that would give us a random number that would correspond to our own legend of restaurants and eateries to go to. One spin of the wheel would give us a number, and whatever restaurant we assigned to that number ahead of time was our lunch time destination.
Looking back at those days, it’s amazing that we didn’t starve to death.
Welcome to 2007, happy lunch go-ers. Someone has made picking a lunch spot in your neighborhood very easy.
Introducing the Wheel of Lunch!
This bad boy of a website is hooked up to Yahoo! Local. What does this mean? Enter your zip code, and a search query (such as “lunch” or “hamburger”), and this website pre-populates a spinning wheel with local restaurants in your area. All you have to do is spin, and eat.
It’s quite nice, and definitely spared our mental energies for more blogging and commenting.
OK, that’s just creepy. I gave it a spin and it landed on Dad’s, which is actually where I went to lunch today. What evil portal to the realms of black magic have you opened, Singhcity?

Needs a little updating, but an odd and interesting idea!

Well, that does help out with the lunch issue. I am curious to hear more about the homemade wheel. Did you improvise with that spinner from the Game of Life?

He should hook it up with Yelp.com. I have just started looking at that site and there is a ton of info over there. It’s on draw back is that people are a bit like Paula on the reviews. They need a few more Simons.

I have to ask CoolDMZ if I like this or not.

Just looking back at your posts. I can’t believe I missed this one. I spun the wheel and it ended up on Espanol..the Italian place across from Corti’s. Maybe we’ll do lunch there soon. It used to be okay.
I think I’ll send people from Sac food Forums over here to spin the lunch wheel.
