The Bee reports today that the County has settled with a former inmate who was suing over neglect for a cut on his hand. Health care reform is all the rage these days, but something about this case tells me it’s not going to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back…
Ricky Kirk, in jail on a spousal abuse charge in 2004, had cut the palm of his hand on his wife’s teeth while hitting her in the mouth.

I feel his pain. I got no sympathy over the forehead laceration I received when I head-butted my grandmother. Hey, she was trying to take the last slice of apple cake. What was I supposed to do? I totally wanted to sue my parents when they told me to “Put some ice on it.”

i like to focus that is put on his hand…what about his wife’s teeth that he cut them on? i have a feeling that 100k is going to gone before the paper the sac bee is printed on starts to turn yellow.

Yeah, but the point is that by not spending a few cents on fresh band-aids and disinfectant, the county ending up spending a ton of money on hospitalization, surgeries, and now a huge settlement. (Oh, and they cut him loose without following through on charges because the medical costs of keeping him were getting too high.) I don’t care that that loser has a huge scar and will have pain for the rest of his life, I care about all the taxpayer money completely wasted due to incompetence.
