July 4th at Ancil Hoffman

This Independence Day weekend meant a visit to our good-weather holiday destination, Ancil Hoffman Park. This is one of my favorite spots in the whole area, and I don’t even play golf. Here are some of my photos from the occasion.

Why is daddy taking a picture of the garbage can? Not just any garbage can — they have one for bottles, one for cans, and one for retired members of Carmichael Rotary:

Saw plenty of deer, including these two little ones just off the trail:

I was impressed by my composition here, but unimpressed by my accidentally turning on the timestamp while trying to figure out how to get to timer mode:

But by far the most exciting thing that happened was when a Metro Fire chopper buzzed right overhead:

and hovered right above ground, surveying the bend in the river that on a good day is always full of rafters and debauchery:

We did make our way down to the water, but Mrs Cool pointed out that it’s not as much fun to bring your little kids down there when the rafters are out. One gets the feeling that Mr Friendly is going to float over and tell you he’s going to have to take the boy.
