Seven people are under arrest in what investigators call an elaborate scheme to make meth.

They can MAKE meth??? Oh boy, now we’re really screwed. What will they think of next?!

I’ll leave it up to y’all to make Smurf jokes. Plus: you may use “smurf” in place of other words that might get you banned.

The cbs13.com reports that Redding firefighters are blaming a flaming squirrel for a grass fire that briefly threatened a home.

Firefighters say the squirrel set off the blaze yesterday when it shorted out a power line, caught fire and dropped into dry vegetation. It took eighteen firefighters and six fire engines 20 minutes to battle the one squirrel blaze.

One squirrel blaze! Badda bing! And the squirrel stock photo they used…very rich. If I didn’t know better I would suggest that cbs13.com is making with the jokes.

UPDATE: News10.net hasn’t thrown their fun hat into the ring with a, er, nutty squirrel photo.

CBS13 has some timely advice for victims of the latest credit card scam, which unfortunately has ties to a local sham company. (My transcript from the video below)

CBS13: Criminals actually tapping into credit cards and charging people for things they didn’t buy. … Investigators say these worldwide complains have been traced right back here…. Officials say this could be just the tip of the iceberg…

CBS13: Opening her American Express bill, [Granite Bay resident Amy Galloway] found charges from a company she’d never heard of called 24 Hour Corp.

Galloway: I finally called American Express and said can you check this out?

CBS13: They did, and credited her account….

According to the AP, local personality and second horseman of the apocalypse Mark S. Allen may be filling in for Ryan Seacrest on American Idol. From the AP:

Ryan Seacrest will be taking an immediate leave of absence from hit Fox Television show American Idol. According to his publicist, Seacrest is dealing with a “medical issue” but should be back on Idol within two months. Seacrest will also be taking a break from his popular Los Angeles radio show on KIIS-FM. Filling in for Seacrest at KIIS will be Los Angeles DJ Dave Styles. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Seacrest’s spot on Idol will be filled by Mark S. Allen, a popular entertainment reporter from Northern California.

If this goes through, they might have to widen the doorways at Good Day Sacramento to allow MSA’s inflated head to fit.

***UPDATE*** Local well-known media blogger “Radio Matthew”, when not contacted about this story, was unable to confirm or deny the veracity of the claims. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this as the day goes on.

I realized a fun local tie in to your movie watching is to pay attention to films that prominently feature blurbs by CBS/CW’s own Mark S. Allen. One such piece of crap is “August Rush,” which I’m embarrassed to say I rented with the wife. We thought it would be a charmingly flawed popcorn rental, and we’re suckers for the Felicity and the Rhys-Meyers. And yes, we knew that Robin Williams made an appearance. Allen’s quote, on the cover of the DVD, is “Your heart will be singing and your spirit will soar!” Replace heart with bowels, and spirit with desire to physically damage your television, and you got yourself a quote.

Cbs13.com reports that people looking for sex is a growing problem in Citrus Heights. These “cruisers” are targeting local parks, ducking into bathrooms and bushes to get their shwerve on.

It’s not just the restrooms. Citrus Heights Lieutenant Jeff MacKanin says that people will use the bushes to perform sexual acts, raising concerns not only because families use the park, but also for the spread of disease. “We can teach citizens to be our eyes for us,” says Lt. MacKanin. “We can teach them to log information, [especially] citizens who work well with police.”

Log information? Oh, this can’t miss. I can see it now…”Male suspect places female suspect on top of stainless steel toilet…female suspect asks male suspect to place an “ass gasket” down first to prevent the spread of disease…male suspect searches for said protective device…“

Jay Henderson, a reader from Folsom, writes to say he was stunned on Monday morning to see “Good Day Sacramento” reporter Chris Burrous (left) give a case of beer and a bag of McDonald’s food to a homeless woman during a live segment.

We’ve taken our shots over the years at the two ring circus that is “Good Day Sacramento,” but we’ve not told the other side of the story, the side that compares Good Day against the other morning shows in the area to see where each stands in this fence-sitter of a media market. (Are we a small big market or a big small market, who can tell?) This week, a dear friend relayed to me his experiences with a two morning shows, and I’d like to share those with you. Hopefully, this will give you a chance to judge for yourself as to who really rules the airwaves from dawn to coffee break.

First of all, let me set the scene for you. My friend had two appearances lined up last month to promote an event, one appearance on the KCRA morning news on channel 58, and one appearance on Good Day Sacramento. The KCRA news appearance was (as if you couldn’t already see this coming) a bad scene.  Rushed for time, fighting technical difficulties and trying to get out his message points despite the woodenness of the broadcast team, my friend did his best to fill the thirty seconds that they wound up giving him.
