Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks Tonight!

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks will be performing tonight at Harlow’s. Malkmus was the primary songwriter for Sac-Joaquin Valley 90’s legends Pavement, and has fronted the Portland-based Jicks since 2000. The band will be supporting their new release Real Emotional Trash, his 4th album post-Pavement, and is the first major tour for the act in several years as Malkmus is a recent parent.

Attendees can expect hipsters enjoying butt-bouncingly infectious tunes accompanied by witty lyrical poetry and blistering psychedelic guitar solos. Don’t miss out on a great band that happens to include two indie-rock luminaries, SM and former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss.

  1. I am hoping that they do the same re-issue treatment with Brighten the Corners and Terror Twilight that they did with the first three albums. The singles have so many incredible b-sides (such as the one you mentioned) that they really deserve to be heard by more people than just the hardcore fans who purchased them when they were originally available. I’m also curious if there is still anything from the vaults that we have not yet heard.

  2. DAMN i can’t believe i missed this.

Also, your redesign, which completely removes dates from articles on the front page, is otherwise great. BRING BACK THE DATES, though, PLEASE!

  3. The show was actually pretty boring as much as I loved him talking Stockton pride and dissing Sactown

Pamper, I’d have to agree, but I wouldn’t go so far to call it boring. I am a much bigger fan of his older solo material than his new album, I wish he would have mixed up the setlist instead of practically playing all of Real Emotional Trash. It did drag a little.
