Vlade Flopper, Not Fighter

As hinted at by sac-eats and as posted by the ever alert and still not creatively paralyzed DB at The Barnesyard, former Sacramento Kings beloved center Vlade Divac is wanted in his home country of Serbia-Montenegro for draft evasion (or “avoison,” one of my favorite neologisms). Yeah, being wanted in Serbia-Montenegro does not sound like something you would wish on a person.

UPDATE: Offensive foul!!

UPDATE II: a half a second after finding this out, Mr. Divac fell to the ground inexplicably.

Kings Tidbits

TZ at Sactown Royalty hopes to show the world that the Lakers are evil.

I haven’t been paying as much attention to this “Team Dime” saga as I should, mostly because when I hear that name it sounds like maybe the name of a middle school club. Before you fear for my safety, dear readers, remember that Team Dime is just a “support group” for #10, and not a gang. Though if they start hanging out in West Sac nightclubs, since they’re banned from Sac, maybe West Sac won’t be so charitable in its labeling.

Kings 05-06 Home Opener

DB at The Barnesyard found a great moment on the video screen in last night’s Kings home opener. Anybody else see this or is DB out of his gourd.

I watched the whole opening with my daughters (2 years, 7 months) and my 2 year old loved it, though for a few moments it was deemed scary. The whole thing did have a very occult human sactifice ritual vibe to it which is probably supposed to seem cool. And now she is nuts for Bonzi Wells, or at least for his name.

UPDATE: DB was right. It turns out Sacramento does have its own newspaper (who knew?) and it did, in fact, cover this story today.

Finally…RAW has come BACK to Sacramento!

Alright stop cheering. WWE’s in Sacramento tonight, at Arco. Anyone else check this out, or better yet, was anyone there? In fact, is anyone even here?

I’m in the midst of watching the show on TV, taped live today at Arco Arena in our own “a**hole” of a town (according to Vince McMahon). Here is your blogcast of the event as it went down on TV:

Pick & Droll: We Have Questions, You Have the Answers?

NOTE: This is the first-ever edition of Pick & Droll, a weekly column devoted to the Sacramento Kings and the NBA, and available exclusively on The Sac Rag. Enjoy.

Now that Monarchs fever has subsided (hey, my temperature rose 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit!), the Kings are again the sporting focus of Sacramento. Training camp opens this week, which means opening day is but around the corner.

This squad is a largely unfamiliar team – only the nucleus of Brad Miller, Peja Stojakovic and Mike Bibby remain from last summer. The three players we got for Chris Webber are all still around, and three new rotation players have been added, as well.

So what are the biggest questions heading into the season?

(Column continued in extended entry.)

No Offense, Rick!

Hey all you Kings fans, not to reign on your, as yet to be held because your team can’t go the distance when it counts, parade, but our own Sacramento Monarchs have the distinction of being the “first professional basketball team in Northern California to win a national basketball title.”

Well, uh, unless you count the Golden State Warriors sweep of the Washington Bullets in 74-75.

Way to go News10.net!

UPDATE: Thanks to Sac Rag author Stickie for letting News10 know about their most egregious error. The people spoke and the people won! The Rags got juice, y’all.

9/11 Fireworks

Driving down the I-80 last night near Truxel around 10 PMish, I and a friend of mine noticed some fireworks off in the distance. We couldn’t figure out why there’d be fireworks, other than for 9/11 commemorations. Hardly appropriate, we thought.

It turns out that the fireworks were actually coming from Raley Field, where the Tacoma Raniers just knocked off the River Cats in the PCL playoffs. The Raniers are now headed to the finals against Nashville, while the River Cats are headed to the nearest golf course.

So, fireworks? Still hardly appropriate, we think.
