Audition Notice: Channel your inner-Liza

Just got this news over the ‘Wire’ that Runaway Stage Productions is still looking for a few good men and women for their upcoming production of “Cabaret” (now in rehearsals).

Performances are 2/29 (that’s a Leap Year Day!) thru 3/23, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of taking in a Runaway Stage production, let me assure you that from a community theater perspective- they are top-notch. Far and away, they are one of the best local theaters in the Sacramento area- and totally cleaned house at last year’s Elly Awards for their production of “Chicago.”

An Absolutely FABULOUS Press Release after the break

But will they upstage the hair?

For those of you who read The Sac Rag before you sign off for the night, I wanted to share this tidbit from our friends at Runaway Stage Productions:

News FLASH! (pardon the pun), If you have not yet seen RSP’s current hit show “The Full Monty,” actors from this exciting popular musical are scheduled to appear live on Channel 31’s Good Day Sacramento this Friday morning, September 15th during the 7:00 and 8:00 hours. Lots of music, interviews and a strip lesson for Mark S. Allen! Check it out and then be sure to get your tickets for “The Full Monty” before it’s too late!

Friends, I have seen the show (in all its glory, one might say), so I’m not just plugging a friend’s project. This is a fun show with heart and a lot of energy and I say it’s worth checkin out.

You don’t have to take my word for it

My 3-year-old is waaay into “Reading Rainbow” so I’ve got that line, plus the little three-note jingle that accompanies it on the brain (remember?). Anyway, if you thought my shout-out about “The Full Monty” was merely a shameless plug for a buddy, you no longer have to place all your faith in CoolDMZ (on this topic, anyway): check out Jim Carnes’ 3-star rave in today’s Scene. Go Game Guy!

When it’s raining men, it pours

Continuing his meteoric rise to local fame, Game Guy Scott Fera can now be seen in two places at once… on the stage at 24th Street Theater in “The Full Monty” and now in network, My58’s Host Hunt Competition. Sac’s newest TV network, which actually premieres its fall lineup tonight at 7 (2 hourlong primetime soap operas with 13 week story arcs), is holding the competition to find 2 hosts for an as-yet unannounced new show for one year. It will most likely be a show in the “Good Day Sacramento” model.

Here’s Scott’s page. One big reason I think the Game Guy deserves your vote is that he is one of a select few contestants who answered the “Pet Peeves” question honestly… some of the other contestants’ answers include “Ignorance,” “Unfairness,” “Liars and fake people” and my personal (least) favorite, “People getting away with injustice.”

When you’re a Monty you’re a Monty all the way…

According to a friend of the Rag who is involved in Runaway Stage‘s fall production of the musical version of “The Full Monty” the theater troupe is still looking to fill 5 roles: two guys (one must be a black guy), a female, and a 10-12 year old boy.

My source is pretty sure that the male character is a semi-lead and at some point would need to be willing to bare it all (or, due to the use of trick costumes) bare it “most.” Runaway Stage is also looking for tech folks, so if you look good in black sweats and are free September 1-24 this is a great opportunity to get involved in community theater. The production will be located at the 24th Street Theater at the Sierra 2 (a nostalgic spot for the Rag).

Interested parties should contact Bob Baxter, director/producer at 206-2466 or Anne-Marie Trout, Asistant Dir. at 202-4788.
