I caught some of Good Day Sacramento this morning. It’s a train wreck. Not sure if that is the intent, but it’s sort of slapped together with little to no production value as if they are literally making this stuff up as they go.
For example, Nick threw it to UPN 31’s “tech” guru (I forget her name already) who was going to walk the viewers through the new “Gas Watch” section of their website which includes a map of local gas prices (a la gasbuddy.com). This was a painful process. Watching her fumble about the site trying to find an actual reported gas price (and if she did, it was 5 or more days old) was brutal. So much so that a few of us at the gym watching this on our individual treadmill monitors changed channels almost simultaneously. Then Mark S. comes on with that silly haircut to talk about the new September 11, 2001 movie, which really didn’t work. Hard to talk about something so serious while trying to blow your overgrown, highlighted bangs out of your face.
And yes, Scooter, I know, I know, there’s a method to his madness…

You know, I’m not sure there IS a method to MSA’s madness afterall. Any 40+ year old man who intentionally grows and colors his hair that way is seriously wrestling with something.
Something beyond any of us.
Something evil.
I’d like to think that it is my absence from the show that has sent “Good Day Sacramento” into a tailspin heading straight into the television crapper. I’d like to think that they couldn’t cope with the loss of the only young blood that show has seen in the past ten years. I’d like to think that, but I know that’s not it.
Clearly it’s the result of the merger between UPN KMAX-31 and CBS KOVR-13 which has left the show with an executive producer who’s trying to please too many bosses. It’s unfocused, it’s unprofessional, and it’s unfunny.
The show is a train wreck, no doubt. I saw the inevitable demise of it coming when this family-friendly morning program had the tour of the Playboy Mansion at 7 o’clock in the morning…

Saw the show this morning and Nick’s eyes are REALLY beige. You must have hi-def to notice though. My husband is a physician and it seems to be a sign of liver failure.

you do not need hdtv to notice Nicks “alien eyes” i have a regular little tv in my kitchen and you can see that he really does not look healthy compared to the energetic Mark, Chris, and Cody. poor thing. hope he is going to be ok.

Thank you Rontopofit! I thought I was the only one that felt this way about GDS. The main problem has to be the hosts.
Maryane is obnoxious. She seems to be laughing all the time and never explains why – way too many inside jokes. She has this guilty laugh like, I’m going to laugh harder and louder and no one will notice how crappy this show is! Yeah, that will bring in the viewers.
Nick is like a ticking time bomb – he always looks like he’s late for an appointment or ready to take a swing at someone for looking at him.
Mark S. Allen has great energy, Nick and Maryane should try to be at his level. Well, seeing the above posts, maybe Nick needs some r&r or a different job.
Doug makes me nervous. His constant throwing with his head looks like he has malaria.
The general manager needs to get rid of these three. Fast!

Can you believe this??? Mark S. Allen was arrested for drunk driving!!I’m shocked! Big deal if his blood alcohol was only .1!! Yet EVERYONE in the Sacramento area knows Nick Toma’s pot and snow supplier is Doug Brauner. And THEY haven’t been arrested???!!! I’m furious!!!!!

This is what I think of GDS and its cast members.
Marianne is professional and funny. Nick is sort of horney. He really seemed to have a thing for Stephanie Cruz when they were co-anchoring the 6am hour, after poor Abbot Dutton got the AXE! I thought her naivtie was cute. I talked to Capt. Ron on the telephone after Abbott got fired. Everyone seemed to be upset but the producer, Brandon Mercer, that I spoke with. MSA is such a delight to watch. His energy is unique to say the least. Stephanie Cruz is the easiest on the eyes and the most professional newcaster they have. I think she will be going places. Tina and Courtney are perfect for the traffic reports. Tina did my daughters 1st birthday seven years ago. When I talked to her on the phone she was real sweet. Doug Brauner seems to be tweekin’ every time I see him. I love that guy Jason that they put on every once in a while. Cody Stark is the funniest damn “countryfuck” I ever did see on t.v. that about says it all!

Courtney doesn’t know whether she is white or black. Steqhanie Cruz is goood. Cody is alright. MSA makes the show go. Julissa O is nice to look at but not to listen to. And that’s how I feel about that.

I think Marianne needs to only use the good hairstyles and not the bad ones.
I think that Nick is a little too crazy for Jenifer Love Hewit.
I think that Stephanie is really pretty but way too serious.
I think that Tina is really nice and she is perfect for the traffic team.
I think that Courtney is very funny. I am not so sure about her wardrobe though.
I think that Cody is funny.
I really hate Julissa Ortiz and she laughs at everything! I can’t STAND to watch TV when she is on! I have no clue what those idiots that like her see in her.

Good Day Sacramento needs to dump Chris Burrous. The weekend edition is awful! Chris wants to do everything,,i.e. He says on-air what camera to use, always interrupts the field reporters and most of all, he is so overwelmed that Channel 3 is beating GDS in the ratings on the weekends it gets unbearable. I have not watched that show since June…
Get rid of him and maybe more people will watch.

That’s cuz at channel 3, we actually put some news on the air. Beat them like a tub this last weekend on the coach musselman arrest story. Wipped ’em all over the dial in the overnight ratings, too. I heard they were pleading with viewers saturday to leave their tvs on even after they left home because “that way we can beat channel 3”

I knew toma when he was here in salt lake city. At that time he was a really nice guy and hot as hell. I remember when he told me that he was leaving for sac, it was heart breaking, him and I became really good friends. I emailed him a few times after that. he acted like he didnt know me. I still think of him from time to time i have yet to see him on tv in sac. And the girl your talking about, here in utah, she was from a radio station.

I dont know what the requirements are to be a journalist on Good Day Sac, but whoeveer hired Jullisa Ortiz must have had a very bad day or they were paid under the table when she was hired. Julissa has a problem with speaking much to fast and all her words run together. Her laughing all the time is very irretating also.
I have been watching channel 3 news in the morning until she is off the air. During the early morning news channel 3 the anchors have more class.

I dated Nick briefly a few years back. I look like the complete opposite of this Utah woman, so he must have been going through a phase of sorts. He never mentioned her to me, but used every other lame break-up excuse in the book in his “break-up” e-mail. I am much younger than him, so I was devastated at the time. He came crawling back a year later but by then I was long over him. It was actually pretty fun to tell him that I moved on to someone way better than him. Women of Sac be warned — Nick is a total toxic bachelor!
Miss Kriss: he’s obsessed with JLH because he’s obsessed with breasts.
He does like to drink, but I can’t say I knew anything about drug use.
Doug wants to be Nick. Doug would go all “Single White Female” if he could.

It’s funny that I’m reading all this because I remember one morning in late October of 2006 while getting ready for school someone on GDS actually brought up this website and everyone hopped on their laptops on air and looked at all the crap everyone was saying about them.
I can tell you Nick Toma was really pissed off, but Marianne tried to rub it off and get on with the show.
Thank you all on here for finally giving me a good laugh at GDS. The internet works wonders.

Wow, I just found this website and I am shocked! I am left wondering what all of you look like, you all must be a bunch of Vogue and GQ models. To sit back and criticize constantly makes me think you must be very unhappy with your own lives.
And for those of you who say you “know this person or that person” from the show, you obviously aren’t very good friends to just dish like this, or better yet to make stuff up about these people! I too know some of the cast members, and I can truly say that most of you are full of it! I have known several of Nick’s girlfriends and they have all looked very different, some short, some tall, some blond, some brunette, he has not forced all the girls to look alike. And yes, I said several, and what is wrong with that? He’s a single guy, that’s what single guys do, they date, same as single men in every other line of work! And as for the drug use, that’s crap and you know it! And he does not have hairplugs, that rumor must have been started by all you jealous, bald men out there who wish you had his hair. I won’t even comment on the yellow eyes, that’s just mean. Why start these rumors? You people need to get your own lives!
This show is a great way to start the day, not too many depressing stories like on the other channels and it actually gives you a chance to laugh in the morning. If you are only watching the show to find something negative to say, change the channel, no one deserves this kind of criticism.
BTW, Partygirlz, don’t cut your hair for a man, don’t do anything you don’t want to do for a man, or anyone else for that matter!

Nick has never been married, and has no kids. Which is more than I can say for many of the single TV personalities in this town who shall remain nameless. At least he is a responsible man instead of leaving kids in every town he lives in. He may be a lifetime bachelor, who knows.

I too have known many single tv and radio guys who think nothing of moivng town to town with no regard to leaving children behind. Kudos to Nick for doing the right thing. In this day and age there is nothing wrong with staying single and protecting your hard won assets.

I love watching Good Day in the morning and on weekends. I agree with some of the posts on, most of you need to get a life. Honestly I watch GD for the humor and a little news. If I want some serious news I watch another channel or pick up the paper. Here’s my thoughts.
Doug- I met him, both out one night and he came to my place of business and did a presentation. Seemed like a nice enough person, does seem a little out of it sometimes, maybe he is just nervous. And for those who commented on his “marriage” did you live in the house with him and his wife??? I thought not!!!
Nick- I met Nick on a vacation to Mexico once. He was coming back from a trip as well waiting to board the plane. Nice as can be. If he is some womanizer, so is 400 other people in this town. If you were played, then you were stupid enough to be played.
Julissa- or however you spell her name, She has no brain..I hate her laugh and I turn off the TV every time she is on.
Marcus- He is a hoot, he makes the show worth watching. Who cares about his personal life, we are watching the news. If everyone at your place of business knew all your personal crap,, then they could write on some website all about you too!
Tina & Courtney- I love Tina, she is always professional and seems like she is a family person. Courtney does as well, Love her clothes..maybe a little thin, but again…if she is happy then leave her alone.
Cody- Love the guy. Nice, funny and overall enjoy watching him.
Chris B- Not sure, I can tell they put a lot of make up on him, maybe someone should say, hey you are cute…lose the make up. Not the end of the world.
Stephanie- She is absol. beautiful! Seems a little nervous sometimes, but I think it has to do with the audio guys.
Audio guys- SUCK, they have no idea who is on next, where the cameras should be, when the audio quality is horrible. I think they need to fire them.
Tarnyn- She is a little scattered, but still enjoyable to watch!

Here’s a news flash. The execs at CBS 13 are not exactly happy that a lowly UHF morning news show has kicked the sh.. out of the local network show on CBS 13 for years. Now that the two channels have merged the other shoe is about to drop. You see there’s just no reason to keep all of this on air talent employed and working the same hours. Although some have been going back and forth a little, brother you haven’t seen nothing yet! At the close of the next period all numbers will be reviewed and heads will roll…..big time. Good Day could actually be seen on 13 and maybe they’ll through Jon Edwards on 31. You see there’s just more money on the network side to keep the ratings on 31 bye bye!

Doug Brauner’s absence probably has something to do with the following (this is from a few months ago when it actually happened):
‘Good Day Sacramento’ reporter arrested, charges dropped
Doug Brauner, the longtime “Good Day Sacramento†reporter known to viewers as the “Car Czar,†was arrested Saturday on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence against his former girlfriend and mother of his child, but he will not be charged, officials said today.
Brauner, who writes a freelance column on cars for The Bee’s Wheels section on Fridays as well as hosts a Sunday morning radio show on KHTK (1140 AM), declined to comment this afternoon.
Sacramento Police spokesman Matt Young said Brauner on Saturday reportedly kicked in the screen door of his former girlfriend’s Sacramento home and pushed the woman and his child. Neither were injured. Brauner was arrested at his Sacramento home later that day, police say. There had been past reports of domestic disturbances involving the couple, according to police.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s office has declined to pursue the case because of lack of evidence, district attorney’s spokeswoman Lana Wyant said today.
Hired by “Good Day Sacramento†in 1995 as a car commentator, Brauner also covered news and feature stories for the show. Steve Charlier, vice president for news for channels 13 and 31, would not comment on Brauner’s job status. “I haven’t met with Doug yet, but I plan to do so,†Charlier said.

I read while I watched GDS.As a previous journalist, who worked & played with Nick, it was a pleasure to do BOTH!Womanizer/Maybe, but honestly decent person!Nick has standards, so what is the big deal?I knew Nick before any of the East Coast or Mid-West/Salt Lake stuff, and we reconnected in Sacramento when I found out he came to town!Nick is a ture blue friend!He would give his shirt to anyone, and for nothing in return!
As for journalism, none of you have done the job so don’t knowck the job!I have seen Nick from just out of college and I can say I have seen him go from editors desk to air in no time checking his facts, and being fair to the story, and to the truth!
Nick will always have my support!I am not a GDS fan, I hate GDS, but I support Nick, and still to this day adore him and his integrity!!!
